It also allows you to share all of your favorites with us as well which is a bonus.
Get yourself a cup of coffee, tea, chocolate or even a glass of wine because this post is a little long.

Books
Tears of Amber
After reading this book I’ve been researching just what happened to the German people after WWII, I am learning about a part of history that was unknown to me, the largest resettlement and forced migration in history. Between 12-14 million Germans were forced from central and Eastern Europe(1945-1950) many of these people were sent to internment and labour camps(the same camps that were used for the Jews) where they were used as forced labour as part of the German reparations to Eastern Europe. Are you familiar with this?
Have you ever read The Sunflower? It is an amazing book. In case you are new here, I earned a “Certificate” while in college in Literature of the Holocaust and I share a lot of books about it so that we never ever forget it.
I loved The Recipe Box!
Finds
I love these cute strawberry espadrilles.
Toile fans I think you might like this tote! I did not order the tote but I did order this linen dress. I will be honest, I love the color, the fit and the dress but I think it is a little expensive for a linen dress, especially when you can go to TJ Maxx or Marshalls and find some beautiful dresses for under $50.00. In fact you can shop for lots of J. McLaughlin right now at Marshalls.
I discovered this set of bowls that would be great for ice cream, cereal and summer entertaining.
That is it for this week friends, I hope that you found something that you enjoyed! As always, please share your favorite books articles, recipes that you made or discovered, podcasts and more with us. You can leave the links in the comments.
Have a safe weekend!

Hi, I ordered the Riviera dress from J. McLaughlin. It is good quality but did not fit me well – too big across the shoulders and I could not take it any smaller in the bust.
The desserts sound good.
Hi Elizabeth – Thank you for the book suggestions. I have read Sunflower (and actually saw Mr. Wiesenthal years and years ago when we visited the museum for intolerance in LA. Have you ever been? It is amazing!) and like you, have always been fascinated by that time period in history. I am a retired school librarian and our library won an American Library Association award for a unit on Children of the Holocaust. It was so rewarding to work with 6th grade students on this. Here is a link to our project if you are interested http://www.ala.org/news/press-releases/2016/05/wilson-southern-middle-school-s-holocaust-project-receives-aasl-roald-dahl
You can see we had several survivors visit – Severin Fayerman was amazing ( he came to America and with his family started Baldwin Brass Company – his book “A Survivor’s Story” is a good read) and was great with our students. Now retired, I still read that genre most of the time…and have a trip scheduled to Germany and Poland next year to visit Auschwitz. So, THANK YOU for the recommendation of Tears of Amber – will be next on my list. And yes…never forget!
Great post for Saturday morning reading Elizabeth. I’ve just spend too long reading the articles you shared – even forwarded to Bob the ones about the awesome older houses – thankfully never razed – and the Atlantic article on homes, large closets (which we lack) etc.
Books, as always you share the best…………can you send more hours in a day so I can actually sit down and read them all please!!!!
What a fabulous week here weather wise – hope yours was similar. Just enjoying garden work in 70F – no mosquitoes yet thank God – and then sleeping with an open window, no a/c or heat required, has been a true picker upper for me. I’m feeling so much better and am almost pain free again. Cutting a few peonies for the house means fragrant air and beauty to view. The blue hydrangeas are blooming outside the windows – always an annual garden wonder which makes me thankful. An afternoon visit for a cup of tea with a best friend on her porch – a change from my own – was lovely, and a granddaughter coming for an impromptu supper/heart to heart chat one evening when she finished work made my week!
We’re off to the Sat. market soon for veggies, then I plan to plant more seeds I bought this week, nasturtium, cucumbers and Genovese basil – never can have too much basil for pesto in summer months!
Enjoy your weekend – hope things are going well.
Hugs – Mary
