Thomas Dambo, Cromlix House, Mother’s Day brunch ideas and More on weekend meanderings.
Good morning friends. It’s time for weekend meanings with Kim and Juliet. If you are new to the blog, this is our weekly series where we share all of the things that piqued our interest and caught our eye this week. Travel, books, recipes, adventures, fashion, you never know what we will find but it is always interesting and fun.
Unfortunately I will not be spending the day with my mom but I did get to celebrate with her last week and I know my sisters will be with her on Sunday.
Ok, let’s get to it.
Weekend Meanderings
Trolls: Save the Humans by Thomas Dambo
If you are planning a trip to Atlanta or live nearby, you must stop and see the Trolls!
Trolls: Save the Human by Thomas Dambo is currently on display at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The exhibit runs from now until September 17th.
Trolls: Save the Humans blends art, nature and messages of sustainability in a unique outdoor art installation. The exhibition is Thomas Dambo’s latest exploration in crafting giant trolls – ranging from 15 feet tall to 25 feet wide – with an environmental call. Dambo tells an evolved story of listening and tending to nature, further building on the Nordic-inspired tales and artist-made poems surrounding the many other larger-than-life trolls that co-exist in various locations around the world. The all-new traveling exhibition will amaze and delight visitors of all ages with its whimsical sculptures, each created from reclaimed wood, highlighting the artist’s passion as a recycling art activist.
These magical trolls are enormous, and inspired by ancient folklore, as well as the natural world. They are the latest installation created by artist and activist Thomas Dambo. There are 6 young trolls in the Atlanta Botanical garden, they have noticed that humans are disconnected from nature and have started harming the planet. The trolls mission is to help humans learn how to live in harmony with the planet.
Born and currently living in Denmark Dambo uses recycled materials to create his art. Not only the giant trolls but 3500 bird houses, furniture, and a Happy Wall to name just a few of his projects. His mission is to inspire people to explore nature, take adventures and to show that recycled goods can be turned into beautiful things.

Cromlix
If you have read the blog for any length of time then you know I LOVE Scotland. I have been several times over the years but I have never been to stay at Cromlix. Have you?
Cromlix House is a Victorian mansion located 40 minutes drive from both Glasgow and Edinburgh near Kinbuck, Perthshire. It was built in 1874 as a family residence and converted in 1982 to a hotel.
Andy Murray, the Scottish tennis player and his wife Kim bought the house in 2013 and have been operating it ever since. There are 15 rooms all beautifully decorated awaiting your arrival. In fact, they have recently been refurbished to put the Murray stamp and personality on them. You can get a sneak peak in the Sunday Times video below.
Cromlix is located in 34 acres of secluded woodlands and landscaped garden grounds with its own chapel, loch and of course, tennis courts. The hotel offers 15 bedrooms plus a Gateside Lodge, The Glasshouse Restaurant, plus a spa, golf, fishing and lots more.
One of my favorite things about Cromlix is the Murray family history attached to the hotel, Andys’ grandparents held their Silver wedding anniversary there in 1982. Golden and Diamond celebrations followed, as well as birthdays and three Murray weddings- one of which was Kim and Andys’ in 2015.
Add this gorgeous hotel to your list of places to visit when you plan your next or first trip to Scotland.

Always fun to meander with you Elizabeth. Those trolls are amazing. I will be in Atlanta for Haven, so maybe I will get a chance to go see them in person.
Wendy that would be a perfect outing. I think you will love the rest of the gardens too, they are amazing! Happy Mothers day, have a wonderful weekend.
The Damb9 sculptures are amazing.
They are! I wish there were some closer to me!
I believe Layla from the lettered cottage found a couple of the Trolls and posted about them. Very cool to think there are 100 around the world. Enjoy your Mother’s Day.
Thank you for letting me know! I must have missed her post about it. Years ago there were 5 in Illinois but in 2021 the garden tore them down much to the dismay of the artist and the community.
Happy Mothers day to you too!
Elizabeth! I’m booking a trip to Scotland now. And a room at the Cromlix. Just kidding, of course, … but I’m doing it in my dreams. You find the loveliest country houses. Sorry you aren’t able to spend the day with your mom. Sounds like she’s in good hands with your sisters. And I know your sweet pups will be giving your extra affection today. Those trolls sound amazing … and magical. And all your brunch suggestions do too. Hope you had a lovely weekend! xo
Elizabeth, I am so late to comment ! I really enjoyed your post and Cromlix. Wow that is a beautiful place.. Love to get there someday. I also had no idea about all these troll things. My kids would love it!
I am saving some of the brunch recipes and I want to try that lemon pasta this week, I am getting so many lemons.
I hope you had a nice visit with your mom last week.. and I hope you enjoyed the weekend too.
xo
It’s always fun to see what’s inspiring you Elizabeth! Cromlix is stunning. My parents are actually planning a trip to Scotland so I’m excited to pass this information along to them. It looks like such a beautiful place. Thank you for the troll exhibit information too. I know 4 littles who will lose their minds in the best possible way over them! I’m glad you had the chance to visit with your Mom last weekend and celebrate Mother’s Day. Thank you so much for your kind comment and for sharing my post on simple ways to live a more luxurious life, I really appreciate it. Hugs, CoCo
