Summer means travel and adventures near and far. Today I am sharing what to pack for Pinehurst, NC.
What to pack for a visit to Pinehurst, Nc
Good morning! Today I am joining 6 blogging friends to share our “what to pack” lists for destinations in California, Florida, North Carolina, and New York. I am sharing a few ideas of what to pack for a visit to Pinehurst, NC.
For many people, the mention of Pinehurst means golf. While it is certainly a golfers dream, with 9 courses to enjoy, you don’t have to golf to enjoy it. In fact, in all of the times I have been here I have never picked up a club.
Pinehurst is both a resort and a village. The Pinehurst Resort is actually made up of several properties scattered around the village, including The Holly Inn, The Manor Inn and The Magnolia, but in the center of it all is the beautiful Carolina Hotel.
The Carolina Hotel has recently undergone a multi-million dollar renovation, just in time for the 2024 U.S Open. Classic, sophisticated and ready to welcome guests, the new blue and white lobby looks beautiful.
In addition to the new interiors, there is now a lobby coffee shop and a soon to be Ryders Cup Lounge. In the interim you can have cocktails and dinner at the restaurant in The Carolina.
The outdoor space has expanded to include new verandas to rock away the day sipping a cup of coffee from the cafe or a cocktail from the bar. Fire pits will keep your toasty on cooler evenings or you can sit outside and enjoy a cigar.
Don’t miss the bagpiper on Friday and Saturday nights at 6:00 pm.
If you are visiting the resort and don’t feel like golfing there are there are a plethora of activities to enjoy. You can ride bikes, horses, play golf, tennis, croquet, lawn bowling, pickle ball, and tennis.
Or while away the day at one of the pools, the private lake or the spa. You can fill up every minute of the day with activities or unplug and relax. I highly recommend relaxing and enjoying a day at the sap and the beautiful Frederick Olmstead designed village.
On that note, let me show you what to pack for a visit to Pinehurst.
Exploring the Village
A dress, caftan or shorts and t-shirt are great options for exploring the village, the arboretum or doing a little shopping.
caftan//tote//sun glasses//sandals
I found this caftan at H&M and I love it! It is comfortable, stylish and can be worn during the day or at night and even used as a cover-up. It also comes in black and white and it is only $40.00! I added a French market tote, a pair of sun glasses and sandals and I am ready to shop and then head to the pool.
Outfits for the Village and Resort
- casual resort wear,
- dresses, shorts, caftans, linen pants
- tote, to carry your finds
- sandals or comfy shoes
- hat
- sunglasses
This blue and white stripe dress can be worn like a caftan or belted like a shirt dress.
It comes in multiple colors but I like the blue and white the best. I will warn you, it runs big, I am wearing a small.
Pool Day
The Pinehurst resort has 2 pools, one at the Carolina Hotel and a smaller and quieter pool at the Holly Inn. There is also a private beach club that you can paddle board, boat and swim at. There are shuttles from the hotel to take you wherever you would like.
- swim suit(s)
- cover-ups
- sunglasses
- sandals
- hat
- sunscreen
- tote
- book(s)
- Kindle Loaded with books
- magazines
Golf or Tennis
Don’t forget to pack your favorite shorts, shorts, or golf and tennis dresses. Add your visor or hat too because it is hot down here and you do not want to overheat or burn your head. There are lots of pro shops so if you forget your glove or need extra balls they have you covered.
- shirt
- shorts/pants
- dress
- shoes
- socks
- hat
- visor
- golf gloves
- sunscreen
- sunglasses
- miscellaneous: snack bars, electrolytes, band-aids,
- clubs, balls
Does Pinehurst Resort Have a Dress Code?
The Pinehurst Resort is laid back and the “dress code” is resort casual. That means shorts and a collared polo are acceptable for most places. However there are a few restaurants that require a collared shirt for men. And frankly, sometimes you just want to “dress up” so to be on the safe side bring a sport coat and a dress.

A few weeks ago Kim mentioned COS on weekend meanderings, it was a “new to me store” and has quickly become one of my favorites. I purchased this black and white toile dress, which is unfortunately sold out. This dress from Tuckernuck is similar if you like toile. I paired the dress with some sling-back sandals, a black Lucchese clutch, vintage daisy earrings and a Halcyon days bracelet.

Love everything, Elizabeth. So many pretty looks. Love the pool day outfits, too (and making a mental note of the book you feature–you have the best recommendations).
I’ve never been to Pinehurst and now I really want to go!
Mary Ann,
You will LOVE this book! It is my favorite one that I have read in a very long time.
You are always welcome to come to Pinehurst, we will show you around!
Have a wonderful day!
I’ve never been to Pinehurst, but it sounds amazing. A vacation there would be delightful. Have a great week!
Thank you Leslie! It is a very sweet and magical place. I think you would love it!
Now I have a new place I’d like to visit! I love a good summer kaftan for sure. Thanks for all the inspiring ideas!

Dawn
Dawn, I think you would love Pinehurst! Kaftans/dresses are the perfect summer outfit! Easy to wear and comfy.
So nice to be a part of your group!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Love all your suggestions, Elizabeth … especially that blue and white caftan. I think I need it for my closet! Nine golf courses? Holy moly. I can’t let my husband see this or he’ll be putting our house on the market. So many things to do other than golf though. I’ve never been to North Carolina … maybe it’s time! Enjoyed this so much! xo
Juliet,
I think both you and Jim would love it here. The housing prices are definitely better than California and there is LOTS of golf. The 9, soon to be 10 PCC course are a drop in the bucket for all of the course here.
We should have a blogger retreat here! Then we can take a field trip to Highpoint!
Hope the visit to the dentist went well!
xo
Elizabeth
Elizabeth love this post! So nice to see you wearing these cute pieces too. You look beautiful! I love the COS dress on you and I want the blue stripe I may have to order it. Isn’t COS good? I am into it too.. Who knew?
Pinehurst has way more than I knew. What a charming village. It sounds like a lot of fun. It also looks lovely and I would love to see those hotels. Thank you again so much for doing this with us all! I am going to save this and hope I get out that way someday. My son was just at the Outer Banks and he says it’s very cool too. xo
Kim,
Thank you for the invitation to post along with all of the other fashionistas! It was way out of my comfort zone. The COS dress is fabulous, so beautifully made, I love it. As for the stripe dress, it is so comfortable and it has pockets, even better.
Pinehurst is a beautiful little place, I love everything about it. You would love it here. Perhaps we need a blogger retreat here.
The Outer Banks are beautiful too. So many wonderful places to visit there.
Have a wonderful week Kim!
xo
Elizabeth,
You look fabulous in all of your looks. I love that toile dress from COS! I tried to order the pants when Kim posted, but they sold out so fast. Pinehurst looks lovely!
Annie
What a great selection of things you packed. The black and white toile dress is FABULOUS on you. I hope you had a wonderful time.
Eliz!
It is so fun to see your gorgeous face! You look fabulous in every single outfit. Pinehurst is on my bucket list! Once Steve gets his boot off!
This is the first I’ve heard of the place, but since I don’t golf, that’s not a surprise.
Hi Elizabeth,
Pinehurst NC is beautiful. The grounds at the resort are so pretty. Everything looks so well manicured.
You look so pretty in everything you modeled. The toile dress looks beautiful on you. I can see YOU in high style magazine wearing this dress. You rocked the look.
Katherine, thank you! You made my day.
Have a wonderful weekend!
