As the leaves and the weather begin to change it is time to add some Fall textures and colors to our wardrobes. Get ready for the return of cozy sweater dresses and knits, warm atumnal tones and patterns like paisley, plaid and houndstooth. Luckily dress season doesn’t end with the warm weather. There are lots of Fall dresses to choose from to wear to Fall outings, parties, work, travel or where ever life takes you. Here are the 12 best Fall dresses you can wear on repeat all season long.
You can dress them up, no pun intended, or down with a change of footwear and accessories. Add your favorite boots, tights, scarves, and jackets to take you from the cool days of Autumn to the cold days of winter and from day to night.
Wardrobe Refresh: Autumn Dresses
Toile de Jouy is one of my favorite patterns and this brown and Ivory toile dress would look beautiful this Fall. Add boots, flats or heels.

Shirt dresses are classic, in fact they are my all time favorite silhouette.
This houndstooth dress is another classic, the pattern and the dress can be worn year after year and all winter and fall. Or this one which is a little less expensive.
Plaid is a staple in my Fall and winter wardrobe, this dress is a great addition. So is this one and this plaid dress too!
Paisley is also a beautiful pattern for Fall.
A sweater dress can be worn on its own, with a blazer or with a sweater!
Knit dresses are comfy and cozy. I think this dress would look beautiful with black riding boots and this scarf.
Before You Shop for Fall Dresses
Before you shop your favorite stores this Fall why not check your closet first? Maybe you already have something similar to a dress that you have in your cart or have had your eye on. I typically gravitate towards the same silhouettes, dress lengths and classic colors so I already have a few items in my closet similar to the dresses I shared. Maybe you do as well?
That said, I do like to add one or two dresses to my closet each season. This year I am looking for a wool plaid shirt dress, possibly vintage, maybe Ralph Lauren or something heritage from England.
