WEEKEND MEANDERINGS
Good Saturday morning to you friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet! This is our weekly series where we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye.
Yesterday was International Women’s Day, and March is Women’s History Month. I hope that you celebrated yourself, as well as, all of the other amazing women in the world and continue to do so all month long.
Tomorrow is the start of daylight savings! Are you ready for later evenings, more sunlight and the launch to spring? Can I be honest, I actually like when it gets dark earlier, I know that I am in the minority. That said, I am ready for warmer weather, summer holidays and lots of color from all of the flowers I am hoping to grow. What I am not looking forward to is the pollen, I can already feel my allergies starting.
We have another busy week ahead, my niece arrives today for Spring Break. Lots of family, adventures and fun ahead. What are your plans for the weekend?
Today, I have lots to share and it is all over the place, a dolls house in England, the slums in NY and Chicago, all things lemon and lots more on weekend meanderings.

Her timeless interiors have been featured in House Beautiful, Country Living, Business of Home, WSJ, Boston Magazine and in 2021 Stephanie was invited to participate in the House Beautiful Idea House. In 2022 she opened Heirloom Artifacts, a home goods store. This store is amazing, I want one of everything in the store, the pillows, the lampshades. and the Liberty placemats.
Stephanie worked in commercial design in Nashville, her hometown for years. Then a move to Boston led her to start her own firm and she has never looked back. She is now back in Nashville and can also be found on The Expert for virtual consultations.
“Timeless, collected, comfortable” is how Stephanie Sabbe describes her design style. That is my favorite kind of design! Design that brings together art, vintage and antique furniture, interesting textiles, and a bit of old world style.

Cabrini~Frances Cabrini
In honor of International Women’s Day, I want to share Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini. A strong, courageous, resourceful, amazing woman and the first American saint. Cabrini the movie produced by Angel Studios and directed by Alejandro Monteverde was released yesterday and it tells the amazing story of Frances Cabrini.
Maria Frances Cabrini was born in 1850, in a small village near Milan, Italy. She was the youngest of thirteen children and because she was born premature she was in poor health for most of her life.
She was an excellent student and took religious vows at the age of 22. Her health prevented her from joining the order of her teachers, the Daughters of the Sacred Heart.
Instead with seven other women, Frances founded the Institute of Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In order to earn money Frances started teaching needlework classes and then sold the products to earn more money. She also found people to donate time, money and support to help her and the other sisters reach their goal of being missionaries in China. In 1817, she went to Rome for an audience with Pope Leo XIII to gain permission for her China mission. Instead the pope told Frances to go “not to the East, but to the West” to NY to help the thousands and thousands of Italian immigrants who were going for work and living in poverty.
Mother Cabrini and her companions offered refuge, and education to the Italian immigrants. She started orphanages and schools despite her frail health, prejudice and countless other obstacles against her.
She traveled to Europe, Central and South American and across the United States and established 67 schools, hospitals and orphanages. Frances died in 1917 and in 1946 she was canonized a saint.

Queen Marys Doll’s House
This year is the 100th Anniversary celebration of Queen Marys’ Doll’s House, located in Windsor Castle. If you have a visited planned to London you do not want to miss this amazing doll house.
No plans to visit? Not to worry, you can see the entire house and its contents including: 750 miniature prints and paintings, a garden designed by Gertrude Jekyll, a fleet of cars(Daimler, Lanchester, Rolls-Royce, Sunbeam and Vauxhall) over twelve hundred bottles of the finest champagnes, wines and spirits and so much more on Youtube. The doll’s house also has running water and electricity!
Doll’s House Details
According toThe Royal Collection Trust:
Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House is the largest and most famous dolls’ house in the world. Built between 1921 and 1924 for Queen Mary, consort of King George V, by the leading British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, it contains works from over 1,500 of the finest artists, craftspeople and manufacturers of the early 20th century.
The House was the idea of Princess Marie Louise, cousin to King George V and childhood friend of Queen Mary. She decided that the Queen, who loved all things small and decorative, would enjoy the House and it was to become a gift to Queen Mary in the years after the First World War.
The architect was Sir Edwin Lutyens, a friend of the Princess. Between them, they created a committee who decided on the style of the House and ensured that all its contents were of the highest possible quality and all perfectly to scale.
The committee suggested that the House should be a collaborative venture with the cost and labour to be divided between as many people as possible. The completed House was the product of 250 craftspeople and manufacturers, 60 artist-decorators, 700 artists, 600 writers and 500 donors.
This year to celebrate its 100th birthday, 20 new books were added to the library, including one written by Queen Camilla.

On My Radar

Like you, I wish DST would go away. I like it getting dark earlier too. Allergies are in full swing in Oklahoma so I understand. We are the allergy capital. I loved this post. So many things to see and read. That doll house is exquisite. If you love miniatures you must visit the toy and miniature museum in Kansas City MO. https://toyandminiaturemuseum.org/ It is so fun and fascinating. Have a great weekend
Elizabeth says
Nanci,
Thank you for sharing the miniature museum in KC. My husband is from there and we visit often, we will have to check it out the next time we are there.
I had no idea Oklahoma was the allergy capital, I hope that you are not suffering from them.
Have a wonderful week!

I like it when it gets dark earlier too. And I’m probably the only person in the world who refuses to use emojis.

I do too Brenda, it is like a cocoon from the world.

The film sounds fascinating, definitely one I’ll watch. I haven’t been to see Queen Mary’s Dolls House for years, hopefully I can persuade my daughter and niece to join me on a drive to Windsor very soon.
And Guinness Brownies next week, yes please!
Have a great week Elizabeth, and thanks for all your great suggestions. Jude xxx
Elizabeth says
Judith,
Take pictures and share Queen Mary’s dolls house if you visit. I would love to know what you think.
Definitely try the brownies! They are scrumptious.
Have a wonderful week.

Juliet says
Good morning, Elizabeth! I’m with you and prefer evenings to be dark … at least by 7pm. But we can’t buck the system. Sabbe interiors is right up my alley and I’m pinning away. Oh, to visit her store! Mother Cabrini looks like a fascinating story and one I’m not family with … definitely on my watch list. Enjoy this special time with your niece! xo
Elizabeth says
Juliet, I would love to visit Sabbe Interiors store. I found so many great pieces. I thought you would enjoy her style as we seem to gravitate to the same collected look.
Mother Cabrini is fascinating, a tenacious woman who worked hard for the children and Italian immigrants.
Have a wonderful weekend. xo
Jo says
The film was great . Saw it last night . Not cheesy or kooky Hollywood . Classic and erudite . Highly recommend . Thank you
Elizabeth says
Jo, thanks so much for letting me know! I cannot wait to see it. Have a wonderful weekend.

Hi Elizabeth! I despise the time change and it always seems to take a while to get adjusted! I don’t know why we still do it. Arizona and Hawaii don’t! I also hate allergy season.. I feel like it was already in full swing in Palm Springs.
Sabbe Interiors has some lovely spaces. I am fascinated by Frances Cabrini because that was the name of my childhood parish and I had my first communion there. I always assumed Frances was a man. This looks like a great film ,and this same message really resonates with the migrant crisis today doesn’t it?
I love your St Patty’s recipes. This is a busy month isn’t it with Easter too?
Hope you have a wonderful time with your niece!
Happy weekend!
Elizabeth says
Kim,
Alergy season is the worst. I hope that you find some relief from it. As for the time change, it does play havoc on sleep that is for sure.
Sabbe interiors is one of my favorites.
Frances Cabrini is a fascinating woman. What a coincidence that your parish was named after her. I am looking forward to hearing what you think about the film. I could not agree more about the crisis today…sad
I hope that you have a wonderful week! Loved your post about the tennis tournament, see you this week for the white shirt post.

I live not too far from Windsor Castle so have been lucky enough to see Queen Mary’s Dollhouse a few time. It is an absolutely joy to look at, and the detail is incredible. I am hoping to go to see it again this year.
I always enjoy Weekend Meanderings and this week was no exception! Thank you for sharing the delicious St Patrick’s Day treats as well, Elizabeth.
I appreciate you being a part of the Hearth and Soul Community, thank you!
Elizabeth says
April I have Windsor on my list for my next visit to the UK. I cannot wait to see the doll’s house.
Thank you for hosting! I always get so many wonderful ideas from it.
HAve a great week.
