Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.

It is another cold morning, so far no snow or ice but that will change as the day goes on. Hopefully that means tomorrow morning I will be making a snow angel.

Most everything is canceled again this weekend, which is fine because Bill is still sick. He arrived home last Saturday morning from a work trip and has not left the house since. I am not sure what he brought home but he has spent most of his time in bed.

The Winter Olympics starts in just a few days, and sadly Lindsey Vonn crashed yesterday and injured her knee. Hopefully this does not mean the end to her Olympic comeback.

What sport are you looking forward to watching? I am a big fan of the alpine skiing, figure skating, bobsledding and speed skating.

The opening ceremony is actually my favorite spectacle to watch. This one will include 1,400 costumes, 1,500 pairs of shoes, 110 makeup artists and 70 hair stylists. They say that 500 musicians composed the original soundtracks for the night. It sounds like it is going to be exciting.

By the way, it’s National Hot Chocolate Day so why not celebrate with a cup of my favorite Parisian Style hot Chocolate?

Ok, let’s meander.

Movies

Holy Days

My grandmothers’ twin sister was a Notre Dame nun, ironically my grandmother had 10 children(yes we are Catholic). When I saw this movie pop up I immediately put it on my list of movies to watch.

Holy Days will be released in New Zealand on February 28th. As of now the streaming platforms have not been announced.

A Private Life

Renowned psychiatrist Lilian Steiner (Jodie Foster) is deeply troubled by the sudden death of one of her patients. Convinced that it was murder, she decides to investigate.

Are you a Jodi Foster fan? Did you know that she spoke fluent French? Read all about it in her NPR interview.

Uptown Downstairs Abbey

In this star-studded Comic Relief parody of Downton Abbey, “Uptown Downstairs Abbey” brings together some of Britain’s best-loved actors for a hilarious take on aristocratic drama, outrageous secrets, and upstairs-downstairs chaos. Featuring: Hugh Bonneville, Victoria Wood, Jennifer Saunders, Kim Cattrall, Harry Enfield, Olivia Colman, Joanna Lumley, Dale Winton and many more comedy legends.

Wuthering Heights House with Margot Robbie

I will be honest, I do not like the book Wuthering Heights and do not plan to see the movie but I am always curious to see movie sets and how they are made.

Photographer Don McCullin has spent the last six decades traveling to remote locations and witnessing harrowing scenes of conflict and destruction. Often referring to the British countryside as his greatest salvation, McCullin demonstrates the full mastery of his medium with stark black and white images resonating with human emotion.

I loved learning more about Don McCullin and his amazing photography.

  2. Elizabeth, I hope your husband is on the mend. Colds have been so bad this year. Did you get snow? I hope so. This snowy Yorkshire walk is amazing. I can’t wait to watch the film about the nuns. I adore Judy Davis. I wish it was in our theaters. You always find such great things to share.
I am looking forward to the Olympics. Having a mom that grew up in Wisconsin I grew up watching every winter Olympics. The figure skating and Johnny Weir and Tara are always a highlight along with skiing.
I am going to pop over now to your white bean soup! It looks so good.
I’m thinking snowy thoughts for you. xo

  3. Elizabeth! Look at that snow on the golf course. Wow. Sorry you’re cooped up again and I hope Bill feels better soon. I’m so excited for the Olympics and can’t wait to settle in for the Opening Ceremonies. I double I’ll get off of my sofa during the entire two weeks. National Hot Chocolate Day … how did I miss it?!!! Holy Days looks like a good one, I’ll look for it. I love Jodi Foster. I think she and I share a birthday. I saw her on Stephen Colbert promoting the movie and speaking in French. Didn’t she go to Harvard or Princeton … or some Ivy League school. She’s brilliant in all she does. I’m going to watch the Downtown parody right now. xo

  4. Hi Elizabeth,
I am a fan of Jody Foster! Especially after seeing her on all the talk shows recently promoting her film. I had no idea she spoke French!
    xx

P.S. Your hot chocolate looks amazing!
