WEEKEND MEANDERINGS
Good Saturday morning to you friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet! This is our weekly series where we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye.
The last few days have been beautiful, a little chilly in the morning and then sunny and beautiful in the afternoon. We’ve spent time in the yard, walking to the village for lunch or drinks and just hanging out. We have to enjoy it while we can, soon it will be hot and humid.
What are your plans for the day? This morning we are going to the farmers market to pick up some fresh eggs, honey, flowers and maybe some homemade bread, if there is any left.
Ok, let’s meander. This week I am sharing Pencil & Paper Co.for McKenzie Childs, UK interior designer Lonika Chande, peonies and lots more.
Peonies

Yesterday my first peony bloomed! I would not be exaggerating if I said that I did a little happy dance when I saw it bobbing its beautiful, fuchsia head in the breeze.
What is it about peonies that makes them everyones favorite flower? The color, the delicate ruffled petals? I have no idea but I love them. As I was looking for some new ponies to add to my garden I came across a few things about peonies I did not know so I thought I would share them with you.

Here are a few fun facts about peonies:
- Peonies are named after Paeon, the Greek god of medicine, who was turned into a peony by Zeus after he angered his teacher Asclepius. Paeon extracted a milky liquid from the root of a peony that cured Plutoand Asclepius became jealous. Zeus saved him by turning him into the beautiful peony flower.
- The peony is a perennial plant that can survive up to 100 years.
- They come in every color except blue.
- The flower can grow as large as 10 inches!
- There are 6,500 types of peonies. all originating from 40 species.
- In the Language of Flowers peonies signify romance, elegance, honor, wealth and abundance.
- The Netherlands is the largest cut peony producing country, over 40 percent of the estimated worldwide production, about 50 million stems!
- When Marco Polo first saw peonies, he called them “Roses, as big as cabbages.”
- In China, the name for Peony is “Sho Yu,” meaning “Most Beautiful.”
Who knew? Or did you? Speaking of peonies, have you seen the latest Elizabeth Floyd peony print for May? It would make a beautiful Mother’s Day gift!

On My Radar

So awesome about your peonies. I think they may be my favorite flower. We have hydrangeas growing in the yard and they just are sprouting green leaves, So fun about you and Sheri …we’ll call you the Sweet Tooth Ladies. I’d love a brownie with my coffee right now.
Mary Ann, I am sure that your yard is lovely. Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers, unfortunately the deer love them too and I cannot keep them in the yard. As for the peonies, so far so good.
I love the name Sweet tooth ladies!
Have a wonderful weekend.
The peonies are so lovely and romantic. I didn’t realize that they came in so many colors. Those blue kitchen cabinets are stunning!
Brenda
Brenda, I could not agree with you more. Peonies are such beautiful flowers. I had no idea there were so many colors!
Congrats on your first peonies, Elizabeth! Who doesn’t love peonies … and a good collab. McKenzie + P&P is a marriage made in heaven. The blue and greens … I’m swooning and wondering what piece I should bring home to Snowberry. Of course I want them all … eek, decisions, decisions. Have a beautiful weekend! xo
Juliet, Snowberry needs a piece or two from the McKanzie collection, it is the perfect color. I am in love with my peonies and cherish every day of their beautiful color in the garden beds.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Hi Elizabeth,
I love your fuchsia peony, it’s super healthy looking and so very beautiful. You must be so proud of it, happy dance is right. I love Peonies and I enjoyed reading about the history and the Netherlands must be a gorgeous place to visit with all the peonies and tulips.
Have a relaxing peaceful weekend.
Katherine,
I am so happy about my peonies. They are such a beautiful flower. I really did not know that much about their history until I wrote the post, it is so interesting and the most surprising was the gray of colors.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Elizabeth so excited for you and your first peony. I love the color too!! It’s gorgeous. Neat hearing more about them! I guess we both had flowers on the brain this weekend. I love spring. Sounds like you guys are having some great weather now and fun times.
Both outfits are lovely. That necklace is beautiful. I love the Murano glass.
SO exciting that you and Sheri are doing a series. You are both such great bakers. I need to share and I promise to. The brownies look delicious.
Hope you have a lovely weekend! xo
Good morning Kim,
Yes, this is a time to have flowers on the brain. Everything is so lush and colorful in Spring. In the Summer heat things start to look a little less happy.
I thought the Murano glass necklace was such a great piece to wear all year.
Sheri is so talented and I am looking froward to seeing what she comes up with each month.
Have a great week!
xo
Really enjoyed the information about peonies and this week’s link ups kept me busy reading for hours.
Have a great week, Elizabeth!
Thank you for saying that! I appreciate it. It takes a fair amount of time to gather what I think are interesting articles to share. Have a wonderful week!
