Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler, Iris Apfel Auction, Tour of the Paris house of the US Ambassador and so much more on Weekend Meanderings.
Weekend Meanderings
Good Saturday morning to you friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Juliet and Kim. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.
How was your week? It is a little hard to talk or think about anything but the LA fires. I have seen some amazing stories of fortitude and positivity from people who have lost it all.
One 90 year old woman said that the loss of her house and all of her possession means that she needs to be more intentional when she starts over, and more careful with what she spends her money on. She said that she realizes she doesn’t need two closets full of clothes she doesn’t wear and that when she rebuilds she has to think of building sustainably for future generations. In the meantime she said she is just going to enjoy the life she has left.
Wise words for all of us to ponder, especially in the age one over consumption.
Don’t forget to share any and all organizations or individuals that you know that can use help in the fires.
Ok, let’s meander!
Iris Apfel Auction!

Unapologetically Iris: The Personal Collection of Iris Apfel, presented by Christie’s auction house. This online auction celebrates Iris Apfel one of America’s most iconic style-makers. Mrs Apfel’s legendary flair for fashion, accessories and interior design, will be open for bidding from 28 January 28 to 13 February.
Unapologetically Iris features more than 200 pieces of fashion, accessories and design from the collection of Mrs Apfel. If you are a fan of Iris and her style and would like to see more of the auction visit Christie’s.
If you want to learn more about Iris this documentary is entertaining and interesting. Not to mention you get to see her husband and learn about their their business Old World Weavers. Iris wasn’t just an accidental fashion icon, she was an author, designer, businesswoman and more, including a spunky, outspoken, delightful woman and an inspiration to live life out loud. Tour Iris’s NYC apartment.

Speaking of auctions, the Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler: A Collection from the Pimlico Road Showroom and a Private London House on Thursday 20 February 2025 looks inserting too!
I have been a fan of the iconic Colefax & Fowler for years but really did not know a lot about the history of this iconic British firm, this article about Sibyl is fascinating.

In Case You Missed It

Monday Musings but I shared a vibrant red outfit that you can wear for Valentine’s Day or any other day that you feel like you need a pick me up. Monday’s outfit and Friday’s both feature red skirts, something I know that many of us have from the holiday season. Don’t leave the red holiday dress or skirt in the closet until next year, pull it out and add a sweater, scarf or jacket for Valentine’s day!
In addition to the outfit I shared a great movie that I think you will love, a book and lots more.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. This week I rounded up a few things your Valentine, Galentine, and other loved ones may like, including some delicious homemade treats.

Last but not least, Friday Favorites! I shared this festive outfit, a few books, some delicious soup recipes, including this and lots more.

UNTIL NEXT TIME

On My Radar~Red

Hi Elizabeth,
I so love the attitude of the 90 year young lady. At her advanced age for her to be so positive is really something. She must be in reasonably good health.
Have a lovely weekend
Elizabeth, I loved that 90 year old’s attitude too. No wonder she is still going. If we could all be like her. As a Californian, we hear all day about the status of things in LA and even this week there were more evacuations, and the winds are still a problem. The biggest thing now will be trying to find housing for so very many people and schools for the kids. It’s a huge mountain ahead of everyone to rebuild. I linked to many great places that still need help vetted by local NBC news, if people can help. The Red Cross and World Central Kitchen are two on the ground for right now and there are so many go fund mes for families. I linked to a blog with 20..
I love this about Iris and did not know about the auction. Wow it would be fun to own one of her things. I have her book and she and her hubs led a fascinating life. I can’t wait to watch this video about the English home too.
I love thay pink and red outfit! Going to pop over and check out your soup too. Wishing you a lovely weekend. xo
I really enjoyed today’s post. Especially The Duncombe House. That guy is a crack up! Stay warm!
Hi Elizabeth,
Lovely post thank you.
Happy Weekend, Elizabeth! As usual you’ve provided a ton of interesting rabbit holes to go down and I’m all for it on this cold, overcast winter day. Once again I’m taking laptop to sofa to indulge. The Iris Apfel auction is going to be a good one and I’m excited to look through the catalogue. And watch the documentary. I don’t know a lot about her so everything will be a revelation. It’s very sad continuing to watch the plight of our SoCo neighbors. And uplifting to hear their stories of resilience in the face of unimaginable loss. It certainly does bring possessions into perspective. xo
