Weekend Meanderings
Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.
Yes, I said Juliet. She is back to meander with us on the weekends and in other news Snowberry is for sale! If you know anyone that is looking to buy a charming house and garden in Orinda, CA make sure to share the listing.
The weather was beautiful this week, cool in the morning, sun in the afternoon and a little breeze all day long. I spent two days in my yard working on my front beds, cleaning all of the pollen “worms” out. I cleaned them in February but after the roof was blown off this past week tons of these little things ended up in the beds and on the plants.
I also ventured to the garden center even though I said I wan’t going to buy anything this year. One Hellebore and a peony were needed to fill in blank spaces and a bunch of bee balm as a place holder until our new plants and shrubs are planted in the Fall.
My wildflower garden is doing ok, there are some bare spots in the front, the birds keep eating the seeds. The two beds in the back are doing great! One is zinnias and the other is wildflowers. Oh, and two of my peonies bloomed! I love to look out the window and see their colorful, fluffy blooms, they make me so happy.
Enough about me, let’s meander.
Sargent & Paris~The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Organized by The Met and The Musee d’Orsay Paris, Sargent & Paris opened yesterday in NY and runs through August 3rd. It is free with admission to The Met.
Sargent and Paris explores the early career of American painter John Singer Sargent (1856–1925), from his arrival in Paris in 1874 as a precocious 18-year-old art student through the mid-1880s, when his infamous portrait Madame X was a scandalous success at the Paris Salon. Over the course of one extraordinary decade, Sargent achieved recognition by creating boldly ambitious portraits and figure paintings that pushed the boundaries of conventionality.
A 40 minute audio guide from the exhibit, is available. But I thought you might enjoy this video with Larry D’Amico, it is a fascinating look at each painting, it’s history and more.
One to Watch~The Friend
The Friend, based upon the book by the same name is next on my list to watch. Have you seen it?
When a woman unexpectedly loses her lifelong best friend and mentor, she finds herself burdened with the unwanted dog he has left behind. Her own battle against grief is intensified by the mute suffering of the dog, a huge Great Dane traumatized by the inexplicable disappearance of its master, and by the threat of eviction: dogs are prohibited in her apartment building. The Friend is both a meditation on loss and a celebration of human-canine devotion.
Patina Farms~The Bloomerie Greenhouse
Patina Meadow fans make sure to follow Leila, Steve and Brookes’ daughter. She is in charge of the Bloomerie and all of the fruits and vegetables grown and sold there.
Wollerton Old Hall Garden
Wollerton Old Hall Garden has been called the “most perfect garden in the world.” It is short listed for Historic Houses Garden of the Year 2025 and a regional winner of the 2019 Garden of the Year. If you will be visiting the UK this summer add a stop to this amazing garden to your itinerary.
A Dream Paris Apartment
Sandra Sigman is the owner of Massachusetts flower shop Les Fleurs, she is also an author and leads amazing tours of France. As a young woman in her early 20s’ she lived in Paris while a professional ice skater. She returned to the US to start a flower shop with her mother. Sadly her mom passed awy before the shop opened.
Sadra dreamed of returning to France one day and twenty-five years later she returned to Paris with her husband and purchased an apartment on her dream street. You can follow Sandra and her adventures on Instagram.
Her book French Blooms would make a fabulous Mother’s Day gift.

On My Radar

Interesting info about getting cars to 200,000, the book by Jojo Moyes, and the recipes. I sometimes drive through a local sandwich restaurant, and they ask for tips, too; just this week I tipped them.
Brenda
Brenda,
I thought that was an interesting article as well. More people should keep their cars longer.
I find the tip thing irritating. I do not see the point of tipping for checking yourself out at Walmart! It is out of hand.
Hi Elizabeth,
Such a fun post thank you!Love the french apartment tour! If only …Have a wonderful weekend!
Francesca,
I loved the French apartment and the story. Have a lovely weekend.
Love all featured items. Especially the link to growing wonderful Dahlias and the trailer for THE FRIEND had me in tears. Definitely want to read that book or see the movie. What did I miss? Your roof blew off this week? No end to projects. I always say….BUSY PEOPLE ARE HAPPY PEOPLE….. 🙂
Deanna,
No thank God the roof did not blow off. Thankfully we are inching closer to all of the projects getting finished.
I would love to grow Dahilas but every time I plant them the deer eat them. The Friend had me in tears too!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Elizabeth! So good to be back with you and Kim. I’m glad you brought home a hellebore and peony. Two of my favorite flowers and who can return from the nursery empty-handed … in the sping?! Your lemon pound cake looks so good and our Airbnb has a prolific lemon tree. I may have to take some lemons back to Snowberry to bake. In the meantime I’ll be clinking links and taking house tours. Happy weekend! xo
I want to get on your list to receive the blog posts.
Hello Saralou, do you want me to sign you up? If not you can fill out the form on the blog.
Elizabeth, I love hearing about your plants and your garden. We have a similar situation with redwood trees near us! It is totally maddening! I just clean it up and a windy day comes and it’s all back! I would love to plant hellebores! I don’t think it’s easy to grow them.
I will watch all these videos ! Can’t wait to hear more about the Paris apartment.
Hope the week was good! xoxo
