Monday Musings No. 196

Good morning friends, I hope that you had a lovely weekend. It’s Veteran’s Day so if you see a vet today thank them for their service. My brother, father, uncles and cousins have served in many branches of the armed services and I am thankful for their service to this country.

It’s going to be a “messy” travel day for many, not only because of the government shutdown but also because of the Polar Vortex in the Midwest. In Wisconsin and Chicago there are predictions for worst case scenario of 20 inches of Lake Affect snow. Yikes, that could be a mess. My family lives in both states and many will be traveling so I am a little bit worried. Fingers crossed it will not be nearly as bad as they say.

Are you getting ready to travel for Thanksgiving? Or preparing for visitors? We are having a quiet Thanksgiving with just 4 of us. Speaking of Thanksgiving, don’t forget to stop by on Thursday, I will be joining 5 blogger friends and we will be sharing Thanksgiving sides and desserts.

Have you started decorating? I have a question, why are people so bothered by when other people decorate for the holidays?

What about you? What did you do for fun this weekend?

Ok, on to +5 Things.

The Spotted Cottage By The Sea

Her ex-husband said she’d be nothing without him. Her movie star neighbor disagreed.

Sheila had dreams of where she’d be at fifty, and none of them included being broke, divorced, and running a seaside shop. But when her scheming ex-husband threatened to sell the place out from under her beloved mother-in-law, she had no choice. She had to help.

Russell Westwood wasn’t looking for trouble – or romance – when he left Hollywood. All he wanted was peace and quiet after his messy divorce. Falling for his sweet and determined neighbor was not part of his plan. But nothing else in his life had gone according to plan lately. Why should this?

After Sheila’s decades-old secret comes to the surface, she has to decide if righting a wrong from her past is worth destroying her future with Russell. Will they find a way through, or is their second chance at a happily ever after too good to be true?

Christmas is coming.

Christmas is Coming: An Advent Book

Every day of December brings a delightful new Christmas tradition in this keepsake advent book. Each flap on the cover of the book reveals a clue to a festive activity that can be found inside the pages. It might be a recipe for a delicious homemade treat, instructions for a cozy craft, a game to play, a carol to sing, or a beautifully illustrated story to read with the whole family. This inviting twist on the traditional advent calendar is perfect for families who love to put their own spin on celebrating the holidays.

  1. Hi Elizabeth,
You come from a good family, and of wonderful service to our country. We honor all levels of service in our community. We have a park dedicated to it, the marble I believe was imported from Italy. It’s well done and we purchased a brick to honor my father’s service.
Let people decorate if they feel like doing it wherever. To each their own. If it brings happiness and joy to their lives let them enjoy without judgement. I think that TG gets over looked and the stores put out Christmas early because they have to. Some consumers do not understand this. I was in wholesale marketing and sales so I understand it from an inventory point. I always think if you don’t like it look the other way.

    1. Katherine, your community memorial sounds lovely. I love the idea of purchasing a brick, I am going to see if your village has the same!
I could not agree with your more about decorating, do it whenever you like. It is your life, whatever brings you joy!
I am an early decorator, always have been but the last 2 years I decorated even earlier because of the blog commitments I had with King of Christmas.
Honestly, we love Christmas and on a dark morning or night the lights are so beautiful.
      Have a wonderful week friend.
