Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.

How are you this morning? Are you looking forward to a long weekend? Will you be shopping the sales? I feel like we just finished shopping for Christmas so I will be steering clear of the sales. As I mentioned a few times over the last year, I am trying not to buy things that I do not need and that don’t fit my current lifestyle.

What are your plans this weekend? My sister and brother-in law are coming over for dinner and then to watch the game, or should I say the men are watching the playoff game and we will be reading and talking.

Then Monday we are going to Highpoint to check out a few new stores and to look at furniture. I am looking for occasional chairs, hopefully we will have better luck than the last time. It’s a challenge to find the right size chair, in the fabric and color that you want that is comfortable.

Ok, enough about me. I have lots to share so let’s meander.

Melani Sanders~We Do Not Care Club

Over the last few years social media has been inundated with advice on navigating peri-menopause, menopause and beyond. Truth be told I find some of it incredibly irritating and irresponsible, ALWAYS consult your doctor or medical provider before you take advice from an influencer.

That said, I am a huge fan of Melani Sanders, who offers no advice but tells it like it is, as we age there are less and less things that we care about. She shares what so many women in midlife are thinking in a humorous way, everything from facial hair, weight gain, forgetfulness and depression.

From a random video recorded at 8 am in the Whole Foods parking lot to 6 million followers on social media, the People Magazine 2025 Creator of the year and a book deal. If you are tired of hearing about weighted vests, protein and lifting heavy and need a little levity in your life give Melani a follow on Instagram and read her new book We Do Not Care Club Handbook.

Nikol Johnson~ When Honesty Triggers Hate

Over the last few days there have been several online attacks on women and their looks, surprisingly, or not surprisingly they are from other women. Nichol posted this video and then a couple of days later Rachel Ward was attacked online.

Have you seen the brouhaha over Rachel Ward from the Thorn Birds? She was completely ripped to shreds for posting a video of herself age 68, dare I say, untouched and natural. What is going on in this world when we are:

A). Not “allowed” to be ourselves?

B). The standard of beauty is set so high and unnatural that for many it is unattainable.

I should preface this by stating, YOU DO YOU, I have no opinion or right to an opinion on anyone else and their body or choices.

There are many of us, that do not get botox, hair extensions, are size 2, wear a full face of make-up, designer clothes and an Hermes bag to walk the dog. or many of the other things that social media would have us believe are essential for all women or “we have let ourselves go.” As Melani says in the first story, “We do not care” and we are allowed to feel that way and live the life we want.

The world is harsh, let us be kind and spread a little love, not hate.

Lisa Eldridge~Beauty Secrets of the Georgians

Lisa Eldridge explores the weathly Georgians, including Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, their make-up, hair and the cost to their pocketbooks and health. This is a fascinating video of what wealthy women of the 18th century did all in the name of beauty and prestige.

Ashley Hicks

You’ve no doubt heard of India Hicks and her mother Lady Pamela Hicks but do you know the equally accomplished Ashley Hicks?Ashley Hicks is one of my favorite authors, artists, and designers and this week on Homeworthy he is sharing his fabulously collected English home.

Midwinter Break

I am looking forward to seeing Midwinter Break based upon the book by Bernard MacLaverty. Have you read the book or watched the movie?

  1. Elizabeth, I have no plans to shop either, and no football here, but we will get out for some hikes or a beach drive I hope.
You always find the coolest things. I can’t wait to watch the Ashley Hick’s clip- and the one about Georgiana. Doris Brynner has been one of the chicest people and I have been excited about her auction. She had a lot of Schlumberger pieces.
The pizza rolls look so good. I have to ,are those for the guys.
Thank you for sharing the sweater posts.
Hope you have a great weekend. xo

  2. Hi Elizabeth,
I am all shopped out too and just enjoying the lull time. I love the video’s you select for your blog especially the one about the historical make up!! The Leslie Manville film sounds so good too. I recently went to see Sentimental Value that won the lead actor a Golden Globe, highly recommend.
    Have a lovely week

    1. Hello Francesca,
I hope that you are having a lovely weekend. I think as I age I shop less and less, I do enjoy looking and sharing pieces on the blog though.
The historical make up blog was so interesting. Can you even imagine the cost and time to get make up like that? Yes, Sentimental Value was a very good film. There are some really good ones if you look.
      Have a wonderful week.

  3. Elizabeth! I can’t wait to watch Ashley Hick’s Homeworthy tour. I had no idea India has a similarly talented sibling. Melani Sanders is a treasure … she’s so funny and it’s wonderful that she’s taking th world by storm. I love the mid-life women like Melani and Leanne Morgan are achieving so much success at this stage in their lives. Woman we can relate to. I wasn’t aware of the Rachel Ward brouhaha, but I can’t say I’m surprised. Anyway, I’m going to curl up for the evening and watch your linked videos. The highlight of my day/weekend! xo
