Mushrooms in juniper

Friday Favorites No. 663

Good morning friends! How was your week? It was beautiful here, the most perfect Fall weather. I know that so many of you love summer but I “blossom” in the Fall, I wake every day with a spring in my step and joy in my soul.

There is something magical about the way the sun filters through the pines as the sun comes up in the morning and then in the afternoon as it illuminates the jeweled tone leaves slowly falling from the trees. The crisp air, warm sun and the scent of a late afternoon fire are quintessentially Fall. And at the end of the day as the sun sets the warm glow welcomes you home.

I am never happier than I am in the Fall and Winter. What about you? What is your favorite or least favorite thing about Fall and winter?

Are you ready for Thanksgiving? Will you be traveling or staying put? We are in town and I cannot wait for the holiday fun to begin!

Ok, let’s get to it because I have lots to share.

JA McIntosh November is tied together with heartstrings of gratitude.

The Missed Flight: An Uplifting Metaphysical & Magical Realism Novel About Fate, Faith, and the Grace Hidden in Life’s Delays

Emma Hart lives by plans, precision, and perfect timing — until one rainy New York morning when a mysterious taxi driver changes the rhythm of her day. What begins as a missed interview turns into a journey of faith, fate, and the unseen grace woven through ordinary moments.

Through luminous, cinematic prose, Belya Noor blends the mystical depth of The Alchemistwith the emotional resonance of The Midnight Library. The Missed Flight is not about missing a plane — it’s about finding yourself exactly where you were meant to be.

Jane Austens Christmas.

Jane Austen’s Christmas

Many Christmas traditions and images of ‘old fashioned’ holidays are based on Victorian celebrations. Going back just a little further, to the beginning of the 19th century, the holiday Jane Austen knew would have looked distinctly odd to modern sensibilities.

How odd? Families rarely decorated Christmas trees. Festivities centered on socializing instead of gift-giving. Festivities focused on adults, with children largely consigned to the nursery.  Holiday events, including balls, parties, dinners, and even weddings celebrations, started a week before Advent and extended all the way through to Twelfth Night in January.

Take a step into history with Maria Grace as she explores the traditions, celebrations, games and foods that made up Christmastide in Jane Austen’s era. Packed with information and rich with detail from period authors, Maria Grace transports the reader to a longed-for old fashioned Christmas.

Darling.

Darling

Marooned in a sprawling farmhouse in Norfolk, teenage Linda Radlett feels herself destined for greater things. She longs for love, but how will she ever find it? She can’t even get a signal on her mobile phone.

Eventually Linda does find her way out from the bosom of her deeply eccentric extended family, and she escapes to London. She knows she doesn’t want to marry ‘a man who looks like a pudding’, as her good and dull sister Louisa has done, and marries the flashy, handsome son of a UKIP peer instead.

But this is only the beginning of Linda’s pursuit of love, a journey that will be wilder, more surprising and more complicated than she could ever have imagined.

A razor-sharp, laugh-out-loud novel that re-imagines the cast of Nancy Mitford’s The Pursuit of Love.
