A pottery fest, a reluctant pool day, two stunning home tours and the green pieces I am loving this spring. Come sit with me.

Can I be honest? It is March and it is seventy-eight degrees. Yesterday the same. I do not like it. Summer is so long in the South that this feels too early — like skipping straight to the end of a book before you have started the first chapter. Writing about the weather yet again reminds me of the jokes about the English, maybe I have more in common with them than I thought.

We have a quiet weekend planned after a busy week of appointments and work. The only thing on the calendar is a trip to a pottery fest, which I have been looking forward to, and maybe a little time at the pool. Yes, I was just complaining about the heat — but Bill loves the sun and if it is as nice as they say he will be at the pool. I will tag along, find a chair, and lose myself in a book. I am still thinking about Life as Planned by Amanda Prowse from last weekend. One decision made in childhood, two entirely different lives. It is the kind of book that sits with you long after you have put it down.
Juliet, Kim and I have lots to share. Let’s meander.
This week I have two home tours that could not be more different from each other and I think you will love both of them.
The first is writer Tiggy Maconochie’s contemporary beach house in Dungeness, Kent. She has transformed it into a coastal retreat filled with mid-century modern furniture and contemporary art, much of which she brought from her previous home. It is the kind of house that feels completely unique and inspiring, unlike anyone else’s.
The second is photographer and historian Perry Vaile at her mountain home in the Appalachians — a new build that is rooted in the past and feels as though it was there for generations. Antiques, art, needlepoint, collected treasures. The kind of home that tells you everything about the person who made it.
I also have three short films this week and they are worth every minute. Pour yourself a second cup of your favorite beverage before you settle in to watch.
The first is How I Live Simply at 80 — twelve minutes of wisdom from a man who has worked out what actually matters. You have everything you need. Live simply and with contentment. Be kind to everyone and appreciate what you have. A reminder that the beauty of life is not found in how much we have accumulated but in how deeply we experience the small moments. I have watched it twice.
The second is a short documentary I Leave a Seed about Kathleen Whitehurst — a deaf woman who spent twenty to thirty years building a Sanctuary on a piece of land her father gave her, using found wood, salvaged windows and reclaimed pieces. What began as a kitchen became a home and then a legacy. She is passionate about leaving something behind that goes beyond her. It is one of the most moving things I have shared in a long time I think that you will enjoy it too.
And last — mark your calendars for the new PBS Masterpiece series The Count of Monte Cristo starting Jeremy Irons! One of my favorite books. One of my favorite films — the Jim Caviezel version. This new series looks fabulous. It starts March 22 but you can also stream it now.

Green is having a moment this spring and I am here for it — not just in the garden but in everything. I have found a sweater, a skirt, a dress and a set of plates that I cannot stop thinking about. All linked below.
On Monday and Friday I shared two classic spring outfits along with books, links and a recipe or two that I think you will enjoy. You can find more of my outfits and home finds on ShopMy.

If you are looking for something delicious and easy for lunch or dinner this weekend — my Caramelized Onion and Cauliflower Soup.. Simple, satisfying and exactly right for a warm day that cannot quite decide what season it is.

Last but not least, I shared My Morning Ritual After 50 — Everything In It and Why It’s Non Negotiable and my drinking chocolate recipe.
Tell me what you have on your schedule this weekend — I would love to know.
Don’t forget to visit Kim and Juliet.
Have a wonderful Saturday. If you missed last weeks Weekend Meanderings, I shared Designer Sean Leffers collected home, an extraordinary film, life lessons and more.

On My Radar

Thank you for showing the How I Live Simply at 80. It was beautiful and what I needed to hear at this point in my life. What an amazing gentleman. Your posts are thoughtful, fun and so well thought out.
Thank you Claudette. I thought How to Live Simply was beautiful, so much wisdom from a well lived life.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Love all your videos Elizabeth. That is what I am going to do tomorrow and enjoy the peace! Happy weekend!
Thank you Francesca! Have a lovely weekend.
Elizabeth! Oh my, I feel for you with the unseasonably warm weather. I guess the good news is a pool day with a good book is hard to resist. But to be so warm this early in the year … oof. Along those lines, the time change throws me off and I’m not a fan. I just finished reading Strangers, and my next book – at your recommendation – is Life as Planned. I also added The Count of Monte Cristo series to my watch list … can’t wait for that one. Do you know I’ve never read the book, maybe I should do that first. Wishing you a wonderful week! xo
Juliet, the time change throws me off too. For some reason I thought it would be lighter in the morning not darker.
I think you will love the Count of Monte Cristo, both the book and the series.
HAve a lovely week friend. xo
Elizabeth, I am so sorry I spaced on reading this lovely post. I hear you about the weather. It is definitely much too warm already here. I am thinking about summer and yet February has barely ended. All our flowers are blooming too…very early. Even down in the desert it was 90 and that is much too hot this early… Anyhow, I am going to sit tonight with my cats and watch these videos. Your cauliflower soup is so good for spring and I am pinning it and adding it to make this spring. I love anything Cauliflower. I have some plants I am waiting to come up in my winter garden. I just got my first broccoli I planted last fall.
Is this your kitchen with the pretty white blooms? Love the window coverings too.
I love green too. Feels like the perfect pop of color right now. Hope you had a good week. xo
