Are you drinking enough water? It is important to stay hydrated, here are 5 simple and easy ways to drink more water.

5 Tips to Drink More Water
The new year is upon us and with that new goals for health and wellness. One of the goals for many is to drink more water. Today I am sharing 5 tips to Drink More Water. These simple and easy suggestions will help you reach your hydration goal every day.

5 Easy & Simple Ways to Drink More Water
Did you know that dehydration can cause fatigue, memory loss, irritability, anxiety, and kidney stones? Water is essential for our bodies to function, it is that simple.
There are many things that determine how much water you should drink a day, including how active you are, your diet, your job(if you work outside), your health, etc. But the recommend minimum daily intake for women is 92 oz(11.5 Cups). and for men it is 124 oz(15.5 cups), per the Mayo Clinic. I was actually surprised by these numbers because I was always told we need to drink 8 glasses of water a day.
These are my tried and true tips for getting the recommended daily amount of water a day.

1.Start & End the Day With Water
Start and end the day with a glass of water. After sleeping 8 hours your body is thirsty, so make sure the first thing that you drink is a glass of water. Place a glass of water next to the bed or by the sink so that when you brush your teeth you have a glass(before your morning coffee). Do the same thing before you go to bed, brush your teeth, and drink a glass of water, it will not only hydrate you but help to keep you from waking up with bad breath or a dry mouth.

2.Drink a Glass Every time You Wash Your Hands
Drink a glass after every trip to the bathroom: Place a glass in every bathroom in your house so that every time you use the bathroom you remember to take a drink after your wash and dry your hands.

3. Eat Water Rich Foods
Drinking water is important but you can also consume water rich foods, which are exactly what you think they are, fruits and vegetables that contain a lot of water, to get your daily intake Examples are, watermelon, strawberries, cantaloup, peaches, oranges, skim milk, cucumber, lettuces, and celery but also chicken, yogurt, cottage cheese, pasta, and shrimp.

4. Flavor Your Water
Add flavor to your water with fruits, vegetables and herbs. One of my favorite combinations is cucumber and mint which is not only tasty but refreshing on hot days. I also like to start a cold winter morning with a cup of hot water with lemon. There are endless combinations of fruits and vegetables and you could also make fruit and herb ice cubes to keep on hand for water and for cocktails. In addition to fruits and vegetables I like to use electrolytes as well.

5. Take it With You Everywhere You Go
Get yourself a water bottle or cup that you like and take it with you everywhere. Better yet, get 2 and keep one in your car and one on your desk, in your bag, with your yoga mat or gym bag, next to your bed, on your Peleton or wherever else you will see it. This will encourage you to take a drink every time you see a bottle.

How Does Water Work in Your Body?
According to the Mayo Clinic drinking water and staying hydrated:

What’s the Stanley Cup Craze?
The Stanley cup craze is not the prize for hockey champs, well it is but that is not what everyone is talking about; they are referring to the Stanley Cup Quencher. Unless you have ditched social media for the last 3 years you will have seen the large Stanley Cup with the handle and the straw that major influencers.moms and Gen Z has featured on their Instagram and Tik Tok Feed. The claim is that the Stanley Adventure Quencher Travel Tumbler which is 40 oz. helps you drink more water.
At one point this insulated water cup had a waiting list of 150,000 people. The stock has caught up except when exclusive colors come out like this week. Stanley released red and pink Quencher cups exclusively sold at Starbucks locations in Target stores and people went crazy. There were lines around the block, people sleeping overnight and fights over the cups. These cups are so popular that the #stanley has over 2 BILLION tags on Tik Tok.

Along the way I learned that you should always drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day…I attempt to do that…but I find it harder in the winter. Working on it! Great information, Elizabeth!
Thank you Leslie, here is another tip, drink lots of herbal or green tea or broth based soups.

Gargling with warm water and salt is good for sore throats!
Thank you for the reminder about that, I forgot that was something that would help. Now that I have the sore throat I will start to do that Lindsey! Have a great day and thank you for the tip!
Great reminder and tips, Elizabeth. Getting enough water can be a struggle, especially when traveling, etc. I hate having to stop on road trips or crawl over someone to get to bathroom on plane. I love that fruits and veggies add to our water intake … always a good idea to consume more of those. So sorry your husband’s throat is so sore. That’s the worst. And it sure does make it harder to get the water he needs to heal. Best wishes to you both. xo
Juliet, you are so right about traveling. I hate to drink anything while traveling, by road or plane because I do not like public bathrooms. Have a great day my friend, I hope that you are doing well considering the circumstances.
Good suggestions!
Thank you William. I hope you are well.
Thanks for the advise and tips. I am a big water drinker. It’s so good for you. So sorry your hubby is feeling so sick. A bad score throat is so uncomfortable. He is in my well wishes and thoughts.
Thank you Katherine, he seems to be improving every day. Thankfully the sore throat which was incredibly painful is almost gone. How are you? Are you enjoying or just surviving the winter? It is pretty chilly this week but then next week we will be back into the 60’s. Hopefully we will have one more snowfall before winter is over.
Have you been making anything hearty and comforting? A soup, a casserole? I would love to hear what you are making.
Enjoy your day and thank you again for your well wishes.
I hope your husband feels better soon! Thanks for sharing these great tips!
I’m a huge water drinker. Great information
ME too! Thank you.
I’m always trying to think of new ways to drink more water consistently. Thanks for all of the great tips! I hope your husband feels better soon. <3
Thank you Stacey! He is feeling a bit better. Have a great weekend.
I am so sorry your husband is not feeling well. Praying he gets better soon. I am so bad about water! I used to drink it a lot, but the passed year I have been terrible. Thank you for the great tips! I will be applying them now.
Melba, thank you for your prayers. I appreciate that. Yes water can sometimes be a challenge, but little tips can surely help.
This time of the year, when it’s very cold where I am, herbal tea is a great way for me to hydrate. It just feels good!
I’m not sure where I read this little recipe, but I brewed it up the last time I was under the weather.
3/4 c water
3/4 c lemonade (we use low sugar since my husband is diabetic)
1 mint herbal teabag
1 citrus herbal teabag
1T honey
Bring liquids to simmer. Turn off heat.
Steep teabags for 3 minutes
Stir in honey.
Honey is actually proven to be beneficial!
Yes to the salt water gargle. Shrinks swollen tissues in throat.
My brother in law recently had Covid. He lost sense of smell and taste. Wasn’t eating or drinking enough. He collapsed, and was admitted to the hospital, then the ICU. He was severely dehydrated, had very low blood pressure, and oxygen levels. Thank goodness he recovered! Hydration is needed for your body to function!
Lisa, this is a great recipe. I have copied it and am going to try it this weekend. Tea, warm water, there are so many great ways to ywdrate.
I hope that you broth-in law does not have any lingering effects from Covid, it is a terrible thing.
Stay Hydrated friends!
Elizabeth! Wow! These suggestions are exactly what I needed to meet my 2024 Goal of “more water”. And, now that I splurged for the Yeti, I’m even more motivated.
Cheers in the New Year

Diane, I hope these suggestions help!
Great tips! I always have a bottle/glass close by!
Are all Stanley’s for cold drinks only? I am looking for one for hot drinks.
Hi Marcia,
Stanley’s were originally a Thermos company and yes they can still be used for hot of cold drinks.
I personally have a yeti and am very happy with it.
