Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.

It was another sad week in America, my heart breaks for the families of the two children that lost their lives to senseless violence, as well as those injured. Honestly, some days it is hard to show up and share recipes, clothes, books and  entertaining things when so many are suffering in the world.

be the change you wish to see in the world

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Taylor Swift announced her engagement.

I think Taylor Swift is an intelligent woman, a great businesswoman, and a great singer songwriter. She is joyful and classy. Travis I know nothing about except that he plays for the KC Chiefs. I wish them  years of happiness.

That said, I really do not get the obsession with her. This is not a criticism, I am excited that people love her talent. I just do not understand some of the what I would call over the top and extreme behavior of some of her fans.

It’s Labor Day Weekend, the last hurrah of summer, do you have any plans? We have a busy weekend of barbecue festivities, a little pool time, a birthday and then Monday to recuperate from all of the fun.

Ok, let’s meander.

One to Follow~The Cotswold Explorer

Have you been to the Cotswolds? If not add it to your bucket list, it is one of the most beautiful places in the UK. My favorite places to visit are Broadway, Stow on the Wold, Chipping Camden, and Burton on the Water. The good news is, that you can see all of these places and more if you follow The Cotswold Explorer.

India Hicks

India Hicks, author, designer, entrepreneur and daughter of Lady Pamela Hicks and interior design icon David Hicks, and brother of Ashley Hicks, shared a tour of her Harbor Island home.

If you love collected houses filled with objects that tell stories you will enjoy this tour. You can see more of India’s Style in her books or subscribe to her newsletter.

Joshua Bell~300 Years of Classical Music

I have always loved the violin and when I was 28(yes you read that correctly) I started taking lessons. Sadly, I was not a prodigy like Joshua Bell but I did enjoy it for the years that I played.

Pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy 300 years of classical music in 18 minutes.

  1. These shootings are commonplace here now, unfortunately. They capture the news for a short time, and then they’re another statistic. I don’t get all the hoopla about Taylor Swift either. I doubt I’ve ever even heard her sing. Interesting about food and sleep. Have fun this weekend! No plans for me, just as I like it.

  2. I’m so sad that it’s happened again. And again nothing will be done. On a happier note, I’ve recently become a fan of TS. I always liked her music and felt she was treated terribly during the dreadful Kayne fiasco. But I didn’t really pay attention to her or her life until the Era’s tour. Seeing snippets of the excitement and joy her fans felt attending those shows and the friendship and camaraderie on display, it really touched my heart. As for the Cotswolds, I’ve never been but we hope to go next fall … you can be sure I’ll be consulting your blog – and you – for recommendations. I’m excited to watch India Hicks Homeworthy tour … I think I have a book on her Harbor Island house, of course it’s tucked away in storage. I hope they’ll do a tour on her house in England too. Love her style. Wishing you a happy long weekend … I think we’re both looking forward to fall. xo

  3. Elizabeth I am horrified by the school shootings while kids were praying. I believe the reason we are still having these is we are taking them in stride. That is why they continue here.. We have to demand more of our nation and to look to other first world countries that have actually made the change in gun laws and removing automatic weapons. Just those things make it so their children don’t have to do drills, nor live this way. We can also do this.

Love all the videos. The Cotswolds guy is great! Will watch all those. Snowsill is the sweetest town. I love India Hicks and have followed her and her son’s trips to help in Ukraine. They are amazingly brave and caring. Her books are awesome too.

Love the classical music. I didn’t know you played violin! Griffin plays cello and I miss hearing him. He took his cello to college in Utah.

You have had a busy week. Sorry I missed the posts. I need to check it all out. Those potato skins I want to try! I hope you have a beautiful weekend! xo

    1. Kim, I could not agree with you more. If we want to see change we have to be vigilant and vote, petition, use our voice and whatever else it takes. We cannot be enraged today and then on to some other thing tomorrow.
India Hicks and her son are amazing. I have followed her trips to Ukraine, such an amazing woman.
The Cortsowlds guy is so cool and the places he visits are amazing. Every time I watch a video I wan to go back.
I hope that you have a wonderful evening Kim!
      xo

  4. Oh forgot to say I have become a Taylor Swift fan through my son’s fiancee! Seeing how much she adores her and her music…. It’s really a girl thing and as I had all boys I didn’t get it. Now I do.

They love she’s built her own little empire, the bracelet sharing, the songs and the girl empowerment. She writes her own music and gives super generously to charities in every town and city she travels to. She does good in the world and is a nice role model for setting your own agenda and living life on your own terms.
Maybe that is a big part of her appeal.

    1. Hello Kim,

I think I should have explained myself better. I think Taylor Swift is an amazing business woman, singer, songwriter and philanthropist.
I admire her drive, tenacity and empowerment. What I do not “get” is how people are so over the top invested in her life. Grown women were weeping in grocery stores when her engagement was announced, a university canceled classed because the students were so overwhelmed.
That is what I do not understand.

  5. I’ve been to the Cotswolds in 2007 and I’m finally going back in October. Staying in Stow on the Wold again. I cannot wait! Going with two gals who have never been before.
I got to see JoshuaBell perform a concert here in OK in a church sanctuary many years ago before he got so famous. Then again with our Philharmonic but the church concert was the best. Just solo violin.
I’d rather see people go crazy over Taylor Swift than the way people acted at DJT’s rallies. That I truly can’t understand. At least she brings joy.
    Have a good week.

    1. Nanci.
I hope that you have a wonderful time. The Cotswolds is magical!
Joshua Bell is so talented, I love listening to him play.
I am a huge fan of “Early Music”and have seen so many fabulous performances in churches, the acoustics are always amazing.
      I agree Taylor bring joy.
