Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.

Kim, Juliet and I are back for our first post of 2026. It was a nice holiday break but it is always good to be back together. I personally love to see what Kim and Juliet are up to and enjoying on the West Coast.

As I mentioned yesterday, I am fully embracing the last weekend before the holidays and break are over. The week between Christmas and the New Year is my favorite, everyone is relaxed, typically there is nothing on the calendar and a lot of things are closed. There is no reason to even leave the house.

For the most part I even turned off and tuned out of social media. I am still enjoying my Christmas decor and tree, (we leave it up until January 6th), and eating cookies. We haven’t started a diet or sliming regimen, and are not up and at it at 5 am running miles. It’s a s-l-o-w start to 2026.

Sadly, there has been no snow yet this winter. I have my fingers crossed that we will see something before these season is over.

Ok, let’s meander.

This documentary explores the lives and literary legacy of the Brontë sisters Charlotte, Emily, and Anne; three women who transformed English literature from a remote parsonage on the Yorkshire moors.

For over twenty years, filmmaker Tony Cane-Honeysett documented the life of his mother, British artist Mary Cane-Honeysett. This documentary follows her journey from youthful ambition and joyful painting sessions while striving for acceptance into the Royal Academy of Art to the heartbreaking challenges she faced after a debilitating stroke leaving her with uncontrollable tremors. Mary’s Last Masterpiece is a deeply moving portrait of talent, resilience, and the unbreakable human spirit – a story of an artist who refused to stop creating, no matter the odds.

Mary was an amazing artist, I just wish that she would have been accepted to the Royal Academy. I enjoyed her spunky and he love of her home.

Set against the serene backdrop of rural Wales, this short documentary follows wildlife ecologist Lee Jenkins and his two German Pointers—Neo and pup-in-training Cariad—as they search for elusive otters. Using scent detection to guide camera trap placement, the team gathers crucial evidence to protect these endangered animals. Shot from a dog’s-eye view with immersive cinematography, the film offers a poetic glimpse into conservation through the nose and eyes of a canine detective.

Dying is a process and in a person’s final hours and days, Nickie and her Threshold Choir are there to accompany people on their way and bring comfort.

This choir is amazing. It must be a comfort to those who are walking the path to the end of their lives. Truthfully, I do not think I could do this, could you?

The Choral

The Choral, starring Ralph Fiennes has been on my list to see and is finally at a theatre near me. It is a period movie about a small town choral society struggling during WWI.

Here are 25 reflection questions will help you evaluate what happened this year and set intentional direction for what comes next.

  1. the cauliflower recipe looks delicious. I’ve used your 25 Reflection Questions for the last 3 years but never get through all of them. ha. I ask myself the question and then allow enough time, can take weeks, to really answer in light of my daily life, schedule, demands, etc. The questions really make me think both with my head and my heart and inform my intentions for the coming year. 2025 was our first year in our new home and new lifestyle, multi generational living. Our son and his little family moved from out of state into our guest house. I was especially busy with the move and projects + a 3-4 year old grandchild but I did answer 14 questions. In Jan I always go back and read my answers to see how well my best intensions went. It is a helpful planning tool. I do also settle on a WOTY and a scripture verse of the year that complements it. I think this year will be HOBBIES!! haha. I feel these 3 concepts assist me in living a productive and intentional life. I highly recommend the reflection questions to my friends. Thank you.

  2. Happy New Year, Elizabeth! It’s good to be back with you and Kim. Like you I treasure this period of time between Christmas and New Year’s … or the weekend following New Year’s, where we can live in a bubble of our choosing. I’m in the-don’t-leave-the-house camp. And since this is our final weekend of this blissful state I can’t wait to get back on the sofa and enjoy another lazy afternoon clicking through your always interesting links. Happy weekend, friend! xo

  3. Elizabeth I am with you about this final holiday week. It is my favorite and I don’t like to go anywhere! We’ve had some rainy weather and it’s been so nice and cozy inside. I have to sit down and watch all these videos. You find the most interesting things.
I’m so glad to start another year of doing this with you and Juliet!
I hope you have a great 2026 and get to ease slowly into the new year!
    xo
