The Cape Codder

Good morning! Happy Thanksgiving to my friends and family in Canada and a happy Columbus day to friends and family in the US.

I know many are enjoying cooler weather and sipping pumpkin spiced latee but here in my neck of the woods we are still in shorts and sipping cocktails on the porch on the weekend. Saturday I made a delicious Cape Codder cocktail that I found in the September Issue of Coastal Living magazine. I think you might like it for your next party.

The Cape Codder Cocktail

1/2 cup fresh cranberries

6 Tbsp. water

1/4 cup chopped ginger

1/4 cup sugar

2 Tbsp. orange juice

In a small saucepan combine the above ingredients and bring to a simmer over medium-heat. Cook until cranberries start to pop and syrup turns dark red. Cool and pour through a wire mesh strainer, pressing the fruit to get all the juices. Discard fruit.

Drink

Tbsp. vodka

2 Tbsp. cranberry-ginger syrup(recipe above)

11/2 Tbsp. line juice

11/2 tsp. amari (such as Amaro dell’Etna)

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add the above ingredients, cover with lid, shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled coup glass glass and garnish with a lime peel on a bamboo pick.

Have a great week!

  1. Sounds like a good cocktail. I just don't like alcohol. I think I had my last margarita or anything alcoholic back in about 2002. I take medication anyway, so wouldn't want to mix it. I recall when I drank alcohol it messed up my sleep. Maybe I was just intolerant of it.
