Good morning friends, did you have a nice weekend? It was a busy and hot one here. We spent two days in our garage assembling shelves and moving stuff around. I am certain that I have now touched every box in the garage at least 5 times, honestly it is probably about 10.

We haven’t had tv since we moved into the house over a month ago; normally I would not mind because I do not watch it, but this weekend with all of the things going on in Afghanistan and in Louisiana I have found myself drawn to the internet more and more. I said this last week but I will repeat myself, I cannot get the faces of the men and women who died in Afghanistan out of my mind. I find myself searching the Internet to learn more about these brave soldiers and I am struck by their age, all in their early 20’s except one man in his 30’s. Maybe it is because my own brother decided at the age of 17 that he was not going to college, even though he could have gone to any university that he wanted to. He came home one day just before graduation and told my parents that he was going into the Army and my mother burst into tears and tried to bribe him with a car or whatever else he wanted.
My brother did end up in the Army and he served in the First Gulf War, as well as in Germany, and numerous places around the U.S and the world. He grew up and matured with every posting and with each place he went he took a piece of our hearts with him. Â My brother served 15 years active duty in Army, an another 5 in the reserves, but when I look at the photos of those young soldiers who were lost this week in Afghanistan I see my brother in each one.
I want to share the names of those brave men and women who lost their lives last week in the bombing at the Kabul airport,  eleven Marines, one Navy corpsman and one soldier because I do not want their sacrifice to be forgotten. I also want to acknowledge all of the American soldiers(2,448) and civilians(3,846 contractors) that lost their lives or were wounded(20,320) over the last 20 years, your sacrifice will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of all who have lost a loved one in the war in Afghanistan.
As for the hurricane and all of those in its path you too are in my thoughts and prayers. Stay safe.
Have a good day my friends.

Thank you for honoring these brave young men and women. It has been very difficult for me to see their ages and youth also. It’s so heartbreaking
Praying for their family and friends and also those in the path of the hurricane.
So much tragedy and despair right now.
Christine, I feel the same way. I am praying for all of those that are suffering from their loss as well as for the people in the path of the hurricane.
Thank you for honoring the men and women who needlessly lost their lives. It sickens me that this happened.
Paula, it is heartbreaking to see these young faces and to know that they will never grow old.
What a beautiful tribute! Thank your brother for his service. It’s amazing to me the bravery of these very young men who risk and give their lives to keep us safe and free.
Thank you Lynn, it is amazing that these young men and women go off to war at such a young age so that we cane be free.
My dear Elizabeth,
Thank you for honoring all who paid the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan.
As a member of the Gold Star family ( Viet Nam Era ) it is always difficult knowing that a family, or in this circumstances, families are going through such a tragic time.
I also pray for the grief officers. The ones who are there for the family from the notification of killed in action, to the final resting place. Officer Becerra, was a rock for our family. We stayed in touch, only to be devastated that he took his life seven years after being so strong for us.
We must pray for all who serve and in this difficult season we are in, pray for America and the world.
Warmly,
Lynne
Lynne, it is indeed so very hard to even know what to say or do for all of these people who have lost their loved ones. I am so very sorry for the loss of your friend Officer Becerra. Thank you for coming over to comment.
IT REALLY IS ALL TOO MUCH!
It is indeed Elizabeth.
Hi Elizabeth,
Thank you for sharing your brothers years of service, he must be an amazing man. Please tell him thank you and
everything he did is deeply appreciated.
I too have a heavy heart with the loss of these brave men and women that have lost their lives. It’s “over the top”
heart wrenching on so many levels. I pray the families and friends will someday be able to move their lives forward.
The hurricane is unbelievable as well, big prayers are needed.
Hello Katherine, thank you for reading. My brother is indeed an amazing man. It seems as if we became desensitized to the loss of men and women in Afghanistan perhaps because it hasn’t been reported much lately and we have been lucky not to have to lost anyone of the last 18 months. My thought and prayers are with all of these people and their families.
Beautiful tribute, thank you for honoring these men and women.
Thank you Cara!
A fitting tribute.
Thank you William
Elizabeth, thank you for sharing their names and ages and where they are from. Thank you for sharing about your brother as well. Very heartbreaking
Thank you Dee! I cannot forget these beautiful people who sacrificed all for us.
