Butter boards, 5 easy ways to welcome Fall into your home and more on Weekend Meanderings.

Good Saturday morning friends, it’s time for weekend meanderings with Kim and Juliet.

It’s Fall y’all! Yesterday it was 75 and last night we slept with the windows open for the first time, it was 50! Waking up to the cool crisp air, and the scent of a wood fire wafting into the house was a sure sign that Fall has arrived in my neck of the woods. I love it!

It’s been a busy week and I am ready for the weekend. I have a pile of magazines and a good book waiting for me. Not to mention that I want to bake a few loaves of pumpkin bread and some no-knead bread.

I have lots to share this week so let’s meander!

Butter Boards

First there were charcuterie boards, then pancake boards, now butter boards? A butter board, for those who do not know, is essentially room temperature butter spread on a board or a platter and topped with herbs, spices, honey or whatever else you like.

This viral trend was created by Justine Doiron,

On Sept. 16, @justine_snacks, whose real name is Justine Doiron, posted a clip to her feed where she creates a butter board. In her video, Doiron spreads butter across a serving board and adds various herbs, onions, flower petals, sea salt, etc.

Though Justine Doiron created this viral trend she credits the concept to chef Joshua McFadden, who included a similar recipe in his 2017 cookbook, Six Seasons.

Since then, 7.6 million views and nearly 1 million likes on Tok Tok,  2.7 million on Instagram, with 147, 546 likes later this trend is sweeping the world and everywhere you turn is another butter board.

What do you think? The only time I eat butter is on hot homemade bread or mixed into a baked goods but this might be an interesting appetizer served with hot bread, or homemade rolls.

5 Easy Ways to Welcome Fall Into Your Home

It’s Fall y’all! To be honest, although I love Fall I am not a big Fall decorator. I don’t like Halloween, don’t get me wrong, I love the candy and treats but not the scary decorations. Here are 5 ways that I add a touch of Fall and style up my home.

1.Add pumpkins and gourds

Head the the farmers market and stock up on some baby boos, mini pumpkins, cinderella pumpkins and gourds and add them to your decor. Put them inside a cup, into dough bowls, plop some outside too.

2.Cosy throws and pillows

If you ever visit my house you will always be warm, we have cosy throws and pillows everywhere. I am partial to the look, but not always the feel of vintage tartan throws. I have been collecting them for years.

But we also have cosy cotton throws, and plush throws that the dogs like too. My favorite throw is a cashmere one that my mom gave me years ago. If I was going to purchase a new throw I would splurge for this gorgeous cashmere throw!

I place my throws in baskets, draped on chairs, rolled up at the foot of the bed so that there is always on on hand for a guest of for me. If you like tartan too, and frankly who doesn’t you will love The Tartan Blanket Co, I shared a few of my favorites in this post.

3. Candles

Candles are one of my favorite ways to add a touch of the season to each room. The scent and the warm glow make the room cosy and comforting.

Add tapers to your vintage candle holders, tea lights to cups and the glow and flameless candles for a warm glow without the hazard.

Here are a few of my favorites, tapers, jar candles (TJMAXX) and Marshalls too. I am partial to the glass pumpkins, which you can reuse! Target has some great ones too.

  1. Elizabeth, What a lot of fun ideas.. I am just beginning too out out a few pumpkins. I like foraging and finding fall bits in the yard like leaves and branches too! I agree plaid throws look so good, but can sometimes be itchy..Still cute for decor and picnics! I love that Suzanne Salk book. It’s one of my favorites. Hope you enjoy your cozy weekend with books and magazines.. and pumpkin bread. That sounds so perfect! xoxo Kim

  2. Elizabeth … I love sleeping with the windows open too. Especially this time of year when we wake up to that crisp, fall air. I’ve never heard of butter boards … they’re amazing. So beautiful and now I want to make one. Love all your fall feels and inspiration. It’s truly my favorite time of year. A good book, a cup of cocoa and a plaid throw. Heaven. Hope you’re having the best weekend. xo
