Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.

It’s been a busy week and is going to be an even busier weekend. I had my MRI this week. If you missed it I had an MRI as a precaution on my breasts, I have a long family history of breast cancer to include my mother who was diagnosed at 36.

I was nervous, I am not claustrophobic but the thought of lying in a tube for an hour staring at the ceiling was a little nerve wracking. Luckily that did not happen, instead I had to lay face down with my face in a hole, like when you get a massage, and my breast in another set of holes. Everything went well and the time passed quickly. I’ve already received my results and thankfully they did not find anything abnormal.

This morning we are going to my niece’s graduation and then to the party. My mom is here so we have a week of fun ahead planned. What about you? What are your weekend plans?

National Chocolate Ice Cream Day

Today is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day! Do you like ice cream? Chocolate? If so I think you might enjoy these easy and delicious no-churn chocolate ice creams.

Friends, pour yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy Julia Amorys’ home tour in Palm Beach. This house and the gardens are stunning.

Beatrix Potter fans, you will love this story and this waist coat.

The Piano

Have you ever heard of The Piano? I was “served” this video on Instagram and did a little searching for more information.

The Piano is hosted by Claudia Winkleman, is a series in the UK that sets out to find the UK’s best amateur pianists. They are invited to play on public pianos across iconic UK venues such as London St Pancras, Glasgow, Leeds and Birmingham train stations, while sharing their beautiful stories and music with the British public. The winner will be given the unique opportunity to perform at the Royal Festival Hall.

If you live in the UK you can watch on Chanel 4 or if you are outside the UK watch it on Youtube.

Flower Arranging with TJ McGrath

Flower arranging is not my strong suit, what I realized from watching this video is that I need to remember to use a flower frog, and some chicken wire or tape. TJ McGrath offers some great tips that we can all use to make our arrangements more beautiful.

Learn more about TJ on The Flower Podcast or on his website. He is a NJ based florist that only uses locally grown flowers in his no foam designs.

After Life

Have you watched Afterlife? A friend recommended it,  I’ve not watched it yet but it looks interesting. On a side note, this trailer does contain bad language.

The Little Dancer Age 14

Did you know that the original Little Dancer Age 14 by Edgar Degas was in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC? Or that it was the only sculpture Degas ever exhibited? She was also considered ugly by the art critics and after her first and only exhibition in 1881 she sat in Degas studio until his heirs discovered her in 1917. The heirs took her to a foundry and had bronze statues cast which are what you see in museums all over the world.

This little dancer is made of paint brushes, wax, cotton, pieces of wool, and real human hair. If you want to know how she ended up here read the articles I share below, it is fascinating.

I didn’t and found these facts and so many more fascinating. You can read more about The Little Dancer here and here or see her in person in Washington DC.

  1. Julia Amory’s home is divine! She has a young fresh approach to classic design. Nothing trendy.
Your blog is delightful. I always enjoy your posts. Thank you!

  2. This was fun! You reminded me to wear a Julia Amory dress that I bought last summer.
Something that made me SO happy this week (actually last weekend) was seeing our son have a church wedding to his beautiful bride and having lots of our friends together to celebrate.

    1. Mary Ann,
Congratulations to your son! A church wedding is very special.
Make sure to take a phot of your in your Julia Amory dress, I am sure that you look beautiful.
      Have a wonderful weekend.

  3. Hi Elizabeth,
How exciting that your niece is graduating, a party and your mother is in town. Beautiful memories to treasure.
Excellent news that the MRI was clear, that is something to be very joyful about.
I haven’t heard of “the piano.” I did listen to Diana play, in fact twice. What a beautiful person and she plays so well. I’m going to share this with my husband. He plays by ear and he moves me to tears sometimes. Also he’s recorded him playing so I can listen to him play on my phone. Where would we be without technology today? It can be all consuming. That is what you have to be careful about.
    Enjoy your weekend.

    1. Katherine, thank you!
I had never hear of the Piano but what a delightful show. I love that the “judges” are behind the scenes allowing the musicians to play naturally and to share their stories. What a wonderful idea to record your husband!
I hope that you have a lovely weekend.

  4. I so enjoyed the home video in Palm Beach and especially that exquisite waist coat!! Wow! I celebrate your clear MRI.
What made me happy is that 5 baby bluebirds hatched in our nest box this past week. So tiny!! Can’t wait to add more Blue rids to this world.

    1. Nanci, I love the waist coat! And the Julia Armory house, it is so cosy and beautiful.
5 baby blue birds! That is wonderful! We have a pair of wrens and they are on their 3rd brood! The first was 5 eggs, one did not hatch, the second was 4 and this one is only 3. They are so cute.

  5. Elizabeth! I’m delighted your MRI went well and that you’re on top of this stuff. Congrats to your niece … I’m sure the party will be fun. And even more so with your mom there. Like you I’m somewhat challenged in the flower arranging department but I’m sure my efforts would be vastly improved using a frog. Why don’t I own a frog? This needs to be remedied. I’ve been drooling over your almond bear claws since I caught sight of them last week. Is there anything better? And you’re are so pretty … I admire you baking skills. Wishing you the best week … see you next Saturday! xoxo

  6. Elizabeth, I apologize for forgetting to comment! The week got crazy and I just realized that I never read your or Juliet’s posts! What a terrible friend.

I am so very glad you are on top of your health with the family history. The MRI for breasts doesn’t sound so bad. I am SO glad to hear things are good.
Enjoy the graduation and your mom! So nice you can spend time with her too. Congrats to your niece.

So funny we all liked that t-shirt from J. Crew. Love the look you pulled together. Off now to watch your videos here on the couch. I loved the man with the waistcoat…He is such a cool character!
    xo
