MONDAY MUSINGS NO. 81
Good morning friends! Happy Monday. How was your weekend? It was another hot and humid weekend and about this time I start thinking of Fall. Anyone else? It could be that or the fact that the stores already have Halloween candy.
Friday morning there was a fawn wandering around the back yard, it was so sweet. Then Saturday mom was in the front yard munching on my wildflowers. Sunday mom was feeding the baby and then she left her in our azalea bushes to come to feast on my tomatoes and post of flowers on the patio. We had to scare her away because our dogs were out wandering around and we didn’t want anyone to get hurt. Who knows what will happen this week.
Aside from my new “pets” the weekend was pretty low key. Saturday we walked to the farmers market for tomatoes and peaches. There is something special about homegrown summer produce, it just tastes better. It taste like memories and happy times.
Then we strolled around the village, bought a few books at the bookstore and walked home. Later in the afternoon we went to the pool and then to dinner with friends.
Sunday I spent the day weeding the beds, puttering in the yard and catching up on a few podcasts. All and all a relaxing weekend.
What about you? What did you do this weekend? Do you have a local farmers market that you visit? What are  your favorite things to buy there?
Ok, let’s get to the good stuff, what I read, watched and found this weekend.
+5 THINGS
1.READ
In 1943, Irene Woodward abandons an abusive fiancé in New York to enlist with the Red Cross and head to Europe. She makes fast friends in training with Dorothy Dunford, a towering Midwesterner with a ferocious wit. Together they are part of an elite group of women, nicknamed Donut Dollies, who command military vehicles called Clubmobiles at the front line, providing camaraderie and a taste of home that may be the only solace before troops head into battle.
After D-Day, these two intrepid friends join the Allied soldiers streaming into France. Their time in Europe will see them embroiled in danger, from the Battle of the Bulge to the liberation of Buchenwald. Through her friendship with Dorothy, and a love affair with a courageous American fighter pilot named Hans, Irene learns to trust again. Her most fervent hope, which becomes more precarious by the day, is for all three of them to survive the war intact.

Love this post, Elizabeth and not just because you mention The Castle! (Thank you kindly!) I’m a summer tomato and peaches girl big time. There is just nothing like them, and you’re absolutely right about how they magically trigger memories of happy memories and cherished moments. My grandma loved her summer tomatoes and her passion for them lives on (along with the blue of her twinkly eyes and the black of her hair and tawny brown of her skin) every single time I enjoy them. We think these little parts of life are small but as we age, they loom large, yes? It was a weekend of tomatoes, peaches, yard work and reading for me. I usually hit the farmers market Saturday morning, but my neighbors’ produce stand was stocked so I didn’t have to venture far. I’m a fan of hot weather so I don’t long for autumn and hope summer stretches long.
Nordstrom went belly up here.
Really? Wow! I wonder why?
