Good Saturday morning, I am joining my friends Juliet and Kim for Weekend Meanderings so when you finish here pop over and check out all of their weekend favorites

It has been a busy week here.

weekend meanderings Chocolate snack cake with Hershey's chocolate frosting on parchment paper

I made a scrumptious chocolate snack cake with my favorite frosting ever. Honestly, I do not even need to make the cake because my favorite part is the frosting.

Tuesday I went to High Point, NC, for the first time, and I wanted to buy everything I saw. Unfortunately, we only had time to visit 4 design centers/warehouses because we were on a tight schedule. Two had just received containers from Europe and there were bread boards, olive baskets, biscuit jars, mini-greenhouses, champagne buckets, thousands of leather bound books from an estate in the UK to name just a few of the items that caught my eye.

Our kitchen island and our new dining room table was delivered. They are safely stored in the garage until the kitchen is finished.

Friday Favorites flatlay hot chocolate spring flowers and chocolate cake on the porch

Then yesterday I posted Friday Favorites post  where I shared some great books to add to your stack, some delicious recipes and a few articles that you might enjoy as well.

After that, I went to an amazing estate sale at a horse farm. I went to see the house and property and it did not disappoint. It was built in 1930 as a hunting lodge from a converted grist mill that was built in 1800. In addition to the house, it had its own pond, pool, putting green, gym, and barn for the horses.

Let’s Get to It

All Things Lemon…Weekend Meanderings

The blistering heat this week has me thinking of lazy days sipping lemonade on the porch reading a book and not doing much else.

I think Google and Pinterest were thinking the same because all week long lemon recipes, clothes, and quotes popped up on my feed. I took that as a sign and thought “all things lemon” would make a perfect post for today.

Lemon Facts

three lemons in a wood bowl

“The lemon is a round, vibrant fruit from the flowering plant family Rutaceae. Its scientific name is Citrus limon, and it’s native to North-Eastern India. This bright yellow citrus fruit possesses a distinctive sour taste due to its richness in citric acid”.(Source)

Lemons contains 31 mg of vitamin C, that is 51% of the reference daily intake (RDI).

They are high in fiber which is beneficial for digestive health and weight management.

Lemon Desserts & Drinks

lemon loaf cake with lemon drizzle glaze

Lemon loaf cake with lemon drizzle glaze is a great cake to have on hand. You can bake a couple and freeze them to serve with berries, glazed or even plain. This versatile loaf is delicious with coffee for breakfast, with a cup of tea for a snack or for dessert.

Don’t want to bake a lemon loaf from scratch, instead.

Basil lemonade

Homemade Basil Lemonade

Simple syrup

11/2 cup of granulated sugar

1 cup of water

DIRECTIONS

Place sugar and water into a pan and over medium heat bring to a boil, stirring a bit so that the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and set aside.

11/2- 13/4  cups of fresh squeezed lemon juice

7-9 cups of water

1 handful of fresh basil

Place 1/2 basil in the bottom of a pitcher, muddle with a muddler to break it up a little and to release the flavor, add the water, simple syrup, and lemon juice. Mix well. At this point you can let it sit for a little while to let the flavors meld or you can pour into glasses and garnish with the other half of the basil and enjoy.  You can make this as tart or as sweet as you would like by adjusting the simple syrup and the lemon juice. I personally like mine a little tart.

Savory Lemon Recipes

  1. Elizabeth I love this post. Being a Californian, lemon are ubiquitous here. We many lemon seasons- winter ones and now summer season. They keep on giving with so little maintenance. I love all your recipes and especially the cake and lemonade. I make something similar with bubbly water and no sugar and lots of lemon slices, but will try adding basil. I think your version would be so great for a ladies lunch!
The Nest fragrance is on my to try list now. I wear two citrus fragrances, and always looking for another. Love them for summer. The lemon espadrilles and dress! So many cute things. This is bringing me back to the 1970’s. My mom had yellow cushions in our yard and a lemon colored umbrella.. I just found a vintage pool photo with nearly identical yard furniture with that lemon vibe at Homegoods and had to buy it..
I wish I could go shopping with you. Sounds like great places and the flea market!! What did you end up buying??
Have a beautiful weekend!! Can you believe this is our 16th Saturday post? Love doing this with you two . x Kim

  2. Good morning, Elizabeth! You’re speaking my language. I love all things lemon, In fact, I have a Pinterest board called Lemon Love. And it just got a ton of new and wonderful content thanks to you! Your lemon loaf is the stuff of dreams … and the lemon raspberry bars too. Is it possible to own too many lemon motifed items? I don’t think so … although Jim begs to differ. I’ve got to go back and make sure I pinned every single picture … and recipe because lemon is my favorite topic. After spritzers. 😉 xo

  3. Elizabeth,
I adore lemon everything! J.McLaughlin just sent me the cutest sport dress, I had no idea there was so much lemon clothing out there!
So exciting about our kitchen! Can’t wait to see it!

  4. Lemons remind me of summer and one of my favorite desserts is the lemon loaf cake from Starbucks! Your recipe looks amazing, I will have to try it! Happy Summer! Donna

  5. I must admit, I had to look on the map to see where High Point was, not knowing much about the cities in the States. I’d love to visit that part of the country some day – the closest I have been is New York. All this lemony stuff is making me think of summer – of course it’s cold in my neck of the woods right now so I’m living vicariously through you. Thanks for sharing all this lemon. I really enjoyed it.
