Good morning friends! Today I am joining Kim and Juliet for weekend meanderings, our weekly series. If you are new, we each share things that caught our eye, piqued our interest, adventures, style, life and so much more.

Juliet and Kim are in California and I am in North Carolina so you are bound to find something to enjoy.

As I mentioned yesterday it has been a busy week. You know those sorts of weeks, where every day is interrupted in some way by an appointment? One day it was the landscapers, another it was someone cleaning the roof, yesterday it was someone measuring the windows for curtains and hardware.

All good things but lots of noise from barking dogs(yes, my dogs are barkers), and a disruption to my schedule. Needless to say, I did not get much done. C’est la vie.

On to more interesting things.

What to Do With Leftover Halloween Candy

For 13 years I had this problem. We lived in a house on a cul de sac and very rarely had more than a handful of trick or treaters.

If you have leftover trick or treat candy on Monday here are 13 genius things to do with it.

Donate It!

Halloween Candy Buyback Program

Visit this site to search for participating dentists and other businesses near you that accept candy donations in exchange for a small reward for the kids, such as toothbrushes, coupons, and sometimes cash. Important note: Make sure to call ahead. Many places set certain buyback rules, like a maximum amount of candy or specific drop-off hours, so be sure to get the details before you show up.

 Soldiers’ Angels

Soldiers’ Angels organizes Treats for Troops annually. Visit the website to find a Halloween candy donation drop-off point or register to start a drive of your own.

Operation Shoebox

They distribute candy on Halloween, Christmas and Easter to troops that are missing the festivities while away from home regardless of where they are stationed. Any candy donations can be sent to Operation Shoebox at: 8360 East Highway 25 Belleview, FL 34420.

Ronald McDonald House Charities

The Ronald McDonald House helps keep severely ill kids and their parents together during treatment. Many locations accept donations of unopened candy for the families they are  helping after Halloween. Visit the RMHC Chapter search page to locate your nearest House and inquire about the specifics for candy donations.

LOUIS VUITTON’S 200 TRUNKS 200 VISIONARIES

For the past year, Louis Vuitton, the French luxury fashion brand has been honoring its founder’s bicentennial with a traveling exhibition of trunks.

The exhibition features 200 trunks reimagined from some of the world’s top artists, singers and thinkers as well as brands like Lego.

Named 200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries, the show has gone from the Louis Vuitton’s home in France to Singapore and Los Angeles before reaching its fourth and final destination, the former Barneys NY.

You can read more about the exhibit, which runs from Oct 14-December 31st here.  Tickets are free and can be booked here.

Beacon Hill Books

Beacon Hill Books & Cafe is the most beautiful and cosy bookstore I have ever seen. This charming store was designed by Cathy Kincade to look as if you were perusing the bookshelves of someone home.

In addition to the store you can have tea in the cafe, visit the children book section through a hidden door and see the miniature home of Paige the squirrel, a fictional character who lives at Beacon Hill Books.

I would make a special  trip to Boston just to visit this magical store. You can read more about it here.

See more of Cathy Kincades’ work in her beautiful book.

Ina Garten

Do you remember 2 weeks ago on weekend meanderings I mentioned that Ina Garten seemed to be EVERYWHERE? She popped up again this week on 60 minutes! Did you know that she used to work at the White House for the OMB? Has an economics degree? And is not a trained chef?

After a trip backpacking in Europe she came home with Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking and that is how she taught herself to cook! She is a nervous cook, loves a good cocktail, a denim shirt and she even dropped the F-word in the interview. You can see the entire interview here and get her latest of 13 cookbooks, Go-to Dinners!

The Best Gingerbread Decor 2022 Christmas

This week I rounded up all of the gingerbread holiday decor I could find.  Love the garland, the pillows and the wrapping paper.

Mango Sale 30% off when you spend $220. I like this skirt, this mens Christmas sweater and this black and white sweater which you can dress up or down!

  4. All these treats look so fun … I’m really bummed we don’t have trick or treaters. Rice Krispy treats are my favorite. I’m tempted to make them. But them I’d eat them all myself! Beacon Hill Books is definitely the most beautiful book store I’ve ever seen … or that ever existed. Wow. I thought it was someone’s home. The blue paint color they chose is perfection … and I love the long table set for a dinner. On my list next time I’m on the East Coast. Lucky kids that live in your neighborhood … I’m sure they’re going to make a bee-line to your house. And your pups will bark away like crazy! Hope you’re enjoy the weekend so far! xo

    1. Juliet,
Beacon Hill books does look amazing. I have never seen a bookshop like it in the US.
Make the Rice Krispie treats! You only live once and you can always share with the neighbors, UPS/Fed-ex or mail-mail like I do.
      Have a wonderful week Juliet!
