The holidays are upon us and it is time to get ready to party! Velvet and Christmas go hand in hand so I put together a collection of velvet skirts, dresses, blouses and more that you just might want to wear to your next soiree.

Good Saturday morning friends. Thank you so much for all of your birthday messages here, on Instagram  and by email. I had a wonderful celebration and a delicious cake, which for the first time in my adult life I did not make. Don’t get me wrong, I love baking my own cake because then it is exactly what I want, in fact one year I made one cake a day to celebrate!

Over the last two years parties have been almost non-existent or they were very small and toned down and frankly I don’t think anyone really felt like partying much with all that was going on in the world. This year things seem a little bit different and are starting to trickle into my mailbox.

Every year since I was a child velvet had been a part of my holiday wardrobe. My grandmother or my mother would sew us beautiful velvet dresses or skirts. In fact my “go to” holiday outfit is a velvet skirt, a white top of some sort and a vibrant similar). I have the last skirt that my grandmother made for me when I was 22 and it still fits and still looks beautiful.

  1. Your reminder to think velvet is on point. I had forgotten a two-piece black velvet in my closet that makes me feel beautiful. It’s a tough holiday as I struggle with divorce in my 70s. Always looking to reinvent myself and find joy in small things. Thanks for brightening the journey!

    1. Char, I am sorry that you are having a difficult time, I hope that you find yourself with family and loved ones this holiday as you are now in a new season of your life. Get out your beautiful two-piece suit and wear it many times over the next few months, to lunch with a friend, to church, to a holiday musical or ballet, or just to go out alone and be the amazing and beautiful lady that you are.

      1. Love velvet for holidays and winter in general. I have velvet drawstring pants that look luxe but feel like sweatpants and have room for second helpings ha ha. And this post reminds me that I bought a vintage velvet smoking jacket that I intended to wear this holiday season!

  2. I love that dark grey/black velvet skirt so much. So pretty and classy! I definitely need to add some velvet to my wardrobe.

  3. Delighted you had a wonderful birthday and a made-by-someone else birthday cake! Nothing says holidays more than velvet. I love it too. Is there anything more elegant? Thanks for all the great ideas … hope some of those party invitations start appearing in my mailbox so I can drape myself head to toe in velvet! Happy Holidays! xo
