Good morning! I hope that you had a great week. Mine was rainy, wet and uneventful. Lots of work, yoga and a two good books. I have a big weekend planned with family so I am excited about that.

I mentioned on Wednesday that I am not a foodie but I might have forgot to mention that I love comfort food which is why you often see it featured on my Friday favorites. This week is no exception.

As much as I would like it to be Spring it is still soup season here and I think this Broccoli Cauliflower Soup with Homemade Croutons looks fabulous and would be a warm meal on a gray, rainy day.

One of my favorite things to eat is a sandwich. I think its because I love bread, white bread, multi-grain, rye, you name it I love it. So if you add a little cheese, lettuce and a few other things you have the perfect meal. This article A Totally Obsessive A to Z Guide to Making Sandwiches from Bon Appetit is a great read for my fellow sandwich lovers.

Do you remember Kraft macaroni and cheese? Were you a fan? I was and in fact was just discussing with my husband that I had not eaten it in about 30 years. We were contemplating if we should revisit that “gourmet” meal. After reading Smitten Kitchen this week I do not have too,  Deb has come up with a 15 minute, 1 pot version of the beloved macaroni and cheese of my youth. I cannot wait to make it.

I am not really crafty.  I might rethink that after seeing this easy and creative Crepe Paper Tulip from one of my favorite and most creative and talented bloggers that I know, Lucy from Craftberry Bush. I think this would be a great addition to any Spring or Easter table.

Books/Learning

I love Versailles and enjoy it more each time I visit. Over the years I have collected a few books about this magnificent palace, Versailles by Jean-Marie Perouse de Montclos is one of my favorites. This week Gaye of Little Augury posted about three new books I now have on my Amazon wish list. The photos and post are beautiful.

  1. I have a comfort food for you: It's called irio and is from Kenya.
Mash potatoes. Mince collard greens (called sukuma-wiki–push the week–in Swahili). Spinach works fine, too. You can use frozen but if you use fresh, the chlorophyll will color the mashed potatoes a vivid green.
Into the mashed potatoes, mix minced onions (if you don't like raw onion, sauté them first), the greens, a drained/rinsed can of kidney beans and a drained can of corn (or thawed frozen). Salt and pepper. Eat with your fingers–using only your right hand, take a big and form it into a small ball that you pop into your mouth.
Big hit with kids. Plus: green leafy vegetable + complete protein (beans and corn).
PS: I made macarons! Recipe posted today.
