Friday Favorites No. 517 from Creme de la Crumb, Simply Delicious, Easy Cheesy Vegetarian and More

Welcome to Friday Favorites, a weekly series where I share interesting articles, books, fashion finds, recipes and more.

A flatlay photograph of a book opened to a page that says winter gatherings, with a cup of tea and scattered nuts and pinecones and evergreens.

Good Friday Favorites morning to you! I am so excited to share all of the all of my finds, books and scrumptious recipes from Creme de la Crumb, Simply Delicious, Easy Cheesy Vegetarian.

This week has gone by in a blur, meetings, Zoom classes, and lots of projects going on at the house. I am ready for the weekend.

Tonight is going to be an early night with a good book and a cup of tea. Then tomorrow another busy day on the schedule. Our kitchen designer is bringing out of town clients to see our kitchen and the brink floors because they are thinking of a similar design and want to see it in “real life.” After that dinner with friends.

Ok, let’s skip to the good stuff!

Chicken Tiki masala is one of my all time favorite take out dinners.  I don’t have any chicken but I have lots of cauliflower for some reason so tonight I am making this cauliflower tiki masala.

A brown bowl with potato soup topped with bacon and cheese.

I am always looking for new soup recipes to try and this week I discovered this gluten free potato soup! I cannot wait to make it.

A cinnamon walnut coffeecake cut with six slices on the side.

Is there anything better than a piece of coffeecake on the weekend with your first cup of coffee? Ok, maybe two pieces of cinnamon walnut coffeecake.

The Magnolia Place

Eight months since losing her mother in the Spanish flu outbreak of 1919, twenty-one-year-old Lillian Carter’s life has completely fallen apart. For the past six years, under the moniker Angelica, Lillian was one of the most sought-after artists’ models in New York City, with statues based on her figure gracing landmarks from the Plaza Hotel to the Brooklyn Bridge. But with her mother gone, a grieving Lillian is rudderless and desperate—the work has dried up and a looming scandal has left her entirely without a safe haven. So when she stumbles upon an employment opportunity at the Frick mansion—a building that, ironically, bears her own visage—Lillian jumps at the chance. But the longer she works as a private secretary to the imperious and demanding Helen Frick, the daughter and heiress of industrialist and art patron Henry Clay Frick, the more deeply her life gets intertwined with that of the family—pulling her into a tangled web of romantic trysts, stolen jewels, and family drama that runs so deep, the stakes just may be life or death.

This Time Tommorrow

On the eve of her 40th birthday, Alice’s life isn’t terrible. She likes her job, even if it isn’t exactly the one she expected. She’s happy with her apartment, her romantic status, her independence, and she adores her lifelong best friend. But her father is ailing, and it feels to her as if something is missing. When she wakes up the next morning she finds herself back in 1996, reliving her 16th birthday. But it isn’t just her adolescent body that shocks her, or seeing her high school crush, it’s her dad:  the vital, charming, 40-something version of her father with whom she is reunited. Now armed with a new perspective on her own life and his, some past events take on new meaning. Is there anything that she would change if she could?

Book cover of the collected regrets of clover by Mike Brammer, a black background with a bouquet of colorful flowers and 2 hands holding them.

The Collected Regrets of Clover

From the day she watched her kindergarten teacher drop dead during a dramatic telling of Peter Rabbit, Clover Brooks has felt a stronger connection with the dying than she has with the living. After the beloved grandfather who raised her dies alone while she is traveling, Clover becomes a death doula in New York City, dedicating her life to ushering people peacefully through their end-of-life process.

Clover spends so much time with the dying that she has no life of her own, until the final wishes of a feisty old woman send Clover on a trip across the country to uncover a forgotten love story––and perhaps, her own happy ending. As she finds herself struggling to navigate the uncharted roads of romance and friendship, Clover is forced to examine what she really wants, and whether she’ll have the courage to go after it.
