Weekend Meanderings
Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.
It is going to be a fun and busy weekend here, we are heading to a horse show this morning and then a Derby party this afternoon. I love the Kentucky Derby, the horses, the hats, the spectators and all of the rest. Sadly I do not like mint juleps but I do enjoy an Oaks Lily, the official cocktail of the Kentucky Oaks.
It’s peony season and I have been enjoying every fleeting moment with my colorful blooms. It’s been so hot this week the poor things are wilting on the plant, others are so tall and heavy they are snapping off. Today I cut a bunch off and have them stored in the refrigerator. I hope this technique works and they open when I take them out in a few days. Has anyone else tried this before?
Let me know how I can keep them alive and flourishing for longer.

On a side note, May is Metal Health Awareness month. Sadly mental illness and mental health is something that people do not talk about, especially men. We need to break the stigma attached to mental illness and we need to do more for people suffering from it, it is the only way that we can save lives. My aunt suffered from mental illness for many years, about 10 years ago she walked in front of a train to end her suffering. I wish that she could have been helped.
Ok, let’s meander.
Elegance & Wonder Masterpieces from the Collection of Jordan and Thomas A. Saunders III~Sotheby’s
The Saunders Collection of Old Master Paintings is so brimming with masterpieces, so impeccably curated you’d think it was always this way. But building a world-class collection requires patience, perseverance, and sometimes even a bit of luck. From rediscovering lost treasures hidden away in garbage bags, uncovering secret masterpieces tucked beneath beds, to painstakingly restoring paintings that emerge as extraordinary works of art—join Sotheby’s Old Master expert George Wachter for a behind-the-scenes look at the fascinating journey of assembling a truly exceptional collection.
Comprising fifty-six works, many of which have been exhibited at leading institutions around the world, the collection is remarkable both in its geographical scope and in its chronological sweep, ranging from 1520s Germany, by way of Dutch and Flemish, Italian, Spanish and French art of the 16th-19th centuries, and ending with an exceptional 1820s portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence. This collection’s auction will take place on 21 May 2025 in New York.
For more information about the pieces in the auction visit Sotheby’s.

The Lightening Code
The Lightening Code is an independent film with limited release. One of the main characters in the movie is a robot named Newt who was solely created and operated in the movie by our friends’ son Davis.
If you could help us I would greatly appreciate it, we are trying to help promote and get The Lightening Code in as many theaters as possible. That is where you come in, if you could click here and enter your zip code it would help “demand” that the movie be shown in your area.
Thank you, I appreciate it and I know that Davis and his team do as well.

On My Radar~Mark D. Sikes x Pottery Barn

Hi Elizabeth! Your peonies look beautiful! I’m sure keeping them in the refrigerator helps… just like at a florist. And then keeping them out of direct sunlight.
Enjoy Derby day!!
Xx
That was a fun and colorful post, Elizabeth!
That’s so sad about your aunt. So many people don’t get help. Did you hear that Virginia Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein’s most prominent victims, recently killed herself?

I love OKA! Sadly, my Houston, TX store closed recently and I miss it so. Love your blog Elizabeth! I look forward to reading your lovely posts and seeing the beautiful pics up top!
Elizabeth, Sounds like you have a fun weekend with all the derby events. I wish we could grow peonies here. I have not had luck. Putting them in the frig is a good idea.
I love those colorful flats! Can’t wait to watch the video.I loves Oka and sad they closed here. Cute outfit. I am excited about Mark Sikes too.

Hello Kim, yes we had a lovely weekend. I hope that you did as well. It is always nice to be home after a long trip.
Peonies are my favorite flower and I am so blessed to have 10 bushes, some are more prolific than others but I love them all.
The OKA video is so beautiful. I have never been in an OKA stateside and was so sad that they had financial difficulties and had to close their American stores.
Mark D. Sikes is amazing, as is the collection. Sadly, I do not need any more stuff, but it is always fun to look.
Have a wonderful week Kim.

Hi Elizabeth! I’m here – belatedly for Mark D. Sikes x Pottery Barn. The citrus collection is sending me. Thanks for highlighting mental health awareness month. So many suffer in silence and I’m so sorry about your dear aunt. On a happier note, that’s exciting about your friends son Davis and I”m happy to click and enter my zip code. Wishing him and the entire film’s team a smash success. Rumor has it that peonies are making an appearance at Trader Joe’s. I don’t have any in our yard, we have a hard enough time with roses. Our weather’s been warm too, and earlier in the week I caught our roses wilting. I good soak, and an adjustment to the drip system and they’re back on track. Hope the same for your garden. xo
