Natasja Sadi, Coco Chanel, Johannes Vermeer, and Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons on Weekend Meanderings.

Good Saturday morning friends! Today I am joining Kim and Juliet for weekend meanderings, our weekly series of things that caught our eye and piqued our interest.

I have had the best week! A staycation with my aunt and husband, shopping for antiques, meanderings the botanical gardens and lots more.

Then yesterday, a day in the garden. The deer ate all of the leaves off of my sweet potatoes, they left the stems so I am not sure they are still alive. Any advice is welcome as this is my first time planting sweet potatoes. So far, they have left everything else alone. Fingers crossed they will continue.

My foxglove are doing amazing, as are my peonies. My zinnia are already 3/4″ high and I planted them a week ago. As for the wildflower meadow, it is slow going. I see a few seedlings popping up so that’s exciting.

Ok, let’s get to the good stuff!

Weekend Meanderings

Natasja Sadi

While scrolling instagram a couple of years ago I fell in love with the stunning creations of @cakeatelieramsterdam.

Natasjas’ still life flower arrangements are made with both real and gum paste flowers and they are works of art. I’ve never been able to tell the real from the gum paste flowers. Can you tell the difference?Book cover of a sweet floral life!

This week after, 3 years of hard work, Natasjas’ first book, A Sweet Floral Life,  is being released! I pre-ordered mine months ago and cannot wait to get it on the 23rd.

You can follow Natasja on Instagram and on her website. You can order prints of her flowers or book a workshop with her the next time you are in Amsterdam!

Johannes Vermeer

Vermeer, girl with a pearl earring.

Speaking of Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum is currently hosting an exhibition of Johannes Vermeer. There are only 35 paintings by Vermeer that we know of, 28 of his paintings have been gathered from collections around the world and are now “home” in Amsterdam.

Unfortunately, the exhibition is sold out, but if you are a fan of The Girl With the Pearl Earring or Girl Reading a Letter At the Window you can see the paintings up close and personal and learn more about them in this interactive online exhibit Closer to Vermeer.

You can also watch Vermeer: The Greatest Exhibition a movie based on the exhibit.

Here is a recent review of the movie.

One of my favorite artists, Elizabeth Floyd is currently in Amsterdam and she was lucky enough to see the exhibit, watch her at  Instagram stories to see the paintings up close and personal.

And last but not least, you can read all about the exhibit in the official book published to accompany the exhibit.

Gabrielle Chanel. Fashion Manifesto at the V&A

Coco Chanel

The first UK exhibition dedicated to the work of French couturière, Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel, charting the establishment of the House of CHANEL and the evolution of her iconic design style which continues to influence the way women dress today.

Fashion lovers if you are going to visit London this fall, you must try to get tickets to the Coco Chanel Exhibit. More tickets are being made available in June and you can put your name on a list to be notified when they become available. Check here for more information!

“A girl should be two things: who and what she wants.” – Coco Chanel

I am currently reading, The Real Coco Chanel and read this book a few years ago and enjoyed learning more about her life.

Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons

Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons.

You know me and my country houses, this weeks is a stunner! The house, the rooms, the gardens, the food, classes and so much more.

Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons is stunning; it is a Victorian English country-house hotel that is famous for its Michelin-starred restaurant lead by Raymond Blanc.  Nestled in the Oxfordshire countryside the property abounds in gorgeous gardens. You are welcome to explore the gardens as well as take classes on the property. The perfect holiday for gastronomers and gardeners! For more information about the classes, check here.

A friend recently took a gardening class here and loved it.

Maybe I’ll watch the Vermeer movie tonight. I love his work and Girl With a Pearl is one of my all time favorite films because it is so transporting to another time. My friend just got back from that exhibit.
