WEEKEND MEANDERINGS

Good Saturday morning to you friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.

Floridians,  Georgians, Carolinians how are you? It’s been a rough storm for so many. Unprecedented amounts of rain, flooding, breached creeks and dams and sadly 56 people lost their lives. We were very lucky we had rain, winds, and tornado warnings.

I am so sad to hear of the passing of Dame Maggie Smith, she was an incredible actress. I loved her in Harry Potter, Downtown Abbey, The Secret Garden and so many of her other movies. If you enjoyed her wit and quips  in Downton you will enjoy this montage put together by Downton.

Southern Living Idea House

Who likes a show house, an idea house or house tour? The Southern Living 2024 House in Charleston, SC is all of the above.

You can watch the tour with designer Allison Elebash to get more details on this lovely house. The details and thought that was made for each piece is really amazing, everything from the handprinted wallpaper in the foyer to the sweet grass baskets on the wall to the ceiling of the master bedroom.

Rebecca Ray Designs x Scot Meacham Wood Home Capsule Tartan Collection

Way back in the old days of blogging The Adventures of Tartanscot was my all time favorite blog. Scot spent 13 years at  Ralph Lauren and is a lover of Scotland, he is also an interior designer and designer of tartan fabric. This month Scot released his Fall 2023 capsule collection with Rebecca Ray Designs.

If tartan is not your favorite pattern but quality, handmade leather bags are be sure to see all of Rebecca Ray Designs. 

Movies on My Radar

Although I rarely watch tv, I do enjoy movies, especially foreign films. Here are a few things that I am looking forward to watching, have already watched or am on the fence about.

Apparently the Instagram algorithm think this movie series would appeal to me. I will admit that I am intrigued.

White Bird

White Bird is on my list for a couple of reasons: one Helen Mirren, I am a fan of her work. Two the Holocaust of which I have studied for years.

On my way to and from Colorado I watched The Three Musketeers, it’s in French with subtitles and it is fabulous.

Wanderlust~THE OPEN BOOK

If you love books, always wanted to run a bookstore and love Scotland too, this magical Airbnb is for you! The Open Book is a bookstore that is also a holiday rental. When you book the room you also get the keys to the bookshop!

The Open Book is located in Scotland’s National Book Town. Wigtown has a population of fewer than 1,000 people, and more than a dozen bookstores. The town also hosts the annual Wigtown Book Festival which by coincidence is this very weekend.

Doesn’t this sound fun? This sounds like a dream working holiday. Imagine the interesting people you can meet and what you can learn from all the residents.

If you are interested you can book the apartment and bookstore on Airbnb. I did read recently that there is waiting list .

The 8 Bells of Notre Dame

Although the 8 Nells of Notre Dame survived the raging inferno 5 years ago, they were removed last summer to be cleaned and to allow for the restoration of the North Tower.

The 8 bells named after figures from the cathedrals history range in size  from “Gabriel”, weighing more than 4 tons, to “Jean-Marie” at 782 kg are back and awaiting reinstallation!

I have visited Notre Dame many times over the last 40 years and like many of you are eagerly awaiting its reopening December 7th.

Monday I shared this fun outfit, a book, a movie and lots more you may have missed.  The necklace is a great piece to add to your Fall wardrobe.

Then I shared a Fall Simmer Pot! Remember these from days gone by, before essential oil diffusers. They are back, actually in my case they never left. In any event you can create a signature scent for your own home using just a few ingredients.

Sheri Silver  and I joined forces again this month for our monthly series “Sweet Treats for Your Sweet Tooth.” I made Honey Apple Cranberry bar and Sheri made Honey Apple Marshmallows! You will want to bookmark both of these delicious recipes.
