The Missouri Botanical Garden

The Missouri Botanical Garden located in St. Louis, Missouri is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the Unites States and is in fact a National Historic Landmark.

The garden is 79 breathtaking acres with everything from a Japanese strolling garden, to a geodesic dome( the first of it’s kind that was built in 1960 and houses 1200 plants), a children’s garden and the original estate of the founder, Henry Shaw.

In 2006, the Missouri Botanical Gardens featured “Glass in the Garden, with several pieces by Dale Chihuly. After the show, the garden purchased four pieces to remain and these are the ones I have featured here. They are spectacular!

There is something to see around every corner, sculptures, ponds, plants and so much more. Make sure to visit when you have time to spend the day, there is so much to see and learn.

Spring break or the summer holidays are great times to visit, add the gardens to your bucket list!

These are a series of photographs that I took before my camera ran out of battery. Although I loved everything about the garden the highlight for me were the Dale Chihuly pieces.

I have always loved his work, ever since I saw it for the first time in the exhibition, Chihuly over Venice” in I believe 1996 or so.

You will not want to miss The Little Shop Around the Corner, it is filled with vintage and antique treasures that are donated to the botanical garden. The shop specializes in high-quality furniture, artwork, vintage jewelry, silver, china, and other accent furnishings. And all of the proceeds support the gardens.

The Garden Gate is a more traditional gift shop filled with books, puzzled, seeds and other garden related memorabelia. There is also a cafe and a restaurant to stop and take a rest.
