Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings, Kim and Juliet are taking a few weeks off but will be back soon. Join me as I share all of the things that piqued my interests and caught my eye this week.

I hope that you had a lovely Christmas and Hanukah. We have had the best week, a busy fun filled family week.

The last guest left at 9:30 on Christmas night and about 5 minutes later the rest of us headed for our rooms to go to bed. We had been having a lot of fun the last few day but I am exhausted.

The weather has been beautiful! Sunny and warm, perfect for long walks but I am still hoping for some snow this winter.

This morning we are going out for breakfast, then to the movies and finally tonight we are having a family dinner before everyone goes home in the morning.

I have no plans from Sunday until after New Year’s day. What about you? What did you do for Christmas? Did you travel? Stay home and host? Any plans for New Year’s Eve or day?

As it has been so busy this week weekend meanderings is a little shorter than normal, but let’s get to it.

A Winter Playlist

Now that are in cosy season I could use a quiet, relaxing playlist. I think you will enjoy it to.

For Nathaniel Remez, a dancer with San Francisco Ballet, the company’s 21st annual performance of Helgi Tomasson’s “Nutcracker” has been enchanting audiences at the War Memorial Opera House all December long. But for Nathaniel Remez and his fellow dancers, it is no easy feat.

Spend a day with New York City Ballet principal Indiana Woodward, as she prepares to dance the Sugar Plum Fairy in George Balanchine’s ‘The Nutcracker’. From rainy commutes to pointe-shoe prep and wellness rituals, experience how one of NYC’s top dancers trains, recovers, and transforms for this iconic holiday performance.

Inside, Lucy Cunninghams’ house. Love of pattern brings warmth and personality to every room, while outside, a well-loved garden opens to wide skies and long, gentle evenings.

Victoria and Albert Museum~Inside the Shed Where Tiny Dolls House Furniture Is Crafted

Tucked away in a garden shed, retired furniture-maker turned miniaturist Terry Facey spends his days making something wonderfully small. In this cosy, slow-paced How Was It Made documentary, we follow Terry as he carefully crafts miniature dolls house furniture by hand. Here he shows us how he’s replicated an antique marquetry table from 1674 in the V&A’s collection in miniature form, using the same materials, techniques, care and skill as the full-size piece.

The Oscar-winning costume designer of Wicked and Wicked: For Good, Paul Tazewell, ranks some of Elphaba and Glinda’s iconic looks from the films.

This was a fascinating video! I live the inspiration and the in depth description of some of the most iconic costumes in the movies.

  1. Thanks for the continuing inspiration that comes from your blog. I especially appreciate the many links to interesting articles and information.

  2. Hi Elizabeth,
I so enjoyed listening and seeing both of the ballet dances.
I love the ballet. In fact I told my hubs in November I was ready to see the Nutcracker again. He presented me with four tickets, so off we went to the ballet this year with two friends. Phoenix has a new artistic director, Our previous director was in the position for 25 years so I wanted to see her direction. We all enjoyed everything, our ballet company is outstanding. My fav is Swan Lake.
    Are you into ballet?

    1. Katherine,
I too love the ballet, and the opera and I LOVE early music, and Gregorian chants.
How wonderful of your husband to get you tickets to the Nutcracker. I am sure it was magical.
Wasn’t it interesting to see how different companies prepare for the Nutcracker?
Have a very Happy New Year friend.
