Are you looking for a good book to read this weekend? How about a new outfit for your Fall outings? What about recipe or two? If so I have it all today on my “Friday Favorites” post.
Good morning friends, happy Fall and a happy Friday to you! I hope that your Fall is off to a great start, it’s been beautiful here but it is still very warm. I wake up every morning in anticipation of a cool crisp morning but so far no luck, I am still walking in shorts and a t-shirt. I am starting to tick a few things off my fall bucket list, mostly food related but once the weather turns hopefully I will be at the orchards picking apples and sitting by the fire pit roasting marshmallows.
I have lots to share with you this week so pull up a chair, grab something to drink and enjoy!

Books
What I read or have on my book stack to read this week.
On my bedside table to read this weekend. Eight Hundred Grapes by Laura Dave
Eight Hundred Grapes is a story about the messy realities of family, the strength (and weaknesses) of romantic love, and the importance of finding a place to call home. “This winning tale will both satisfy on a literary level and encourage oenophiles to pour themselves a glass of a recent vintage to enjoy while reading; it’s a tasty treat for wine lovers and teetotalers alike” (Publishers Weekly). You won’t be able to put this “addictive” (Us Weekly) novel down.
I read Juliet by Anne Fortier.
From Anne Fortier comes a sweeping, beautifully written novel of intrigue and identity, of love and legacy, as a young woman discovers that her own fate is irrevocably tied—for better or worse—to literature’s greatest star-crossed lovers.
and The Madonnas of Leningrad by Debra Dean this week.
Vivid images of her youth in war-torn Leningrad arise unbidden, carrying her back to the terrible fall of 1941, when she was a tour guide at the Hermitage Museum and the German army’s approach signaled the beginning of what would be a long, torturous siege on the city. As the people braved starvation, bitter cold, and a relentless German onslaught, Marina joined other staff members in removing the museum’s priceless masterpieces for safekeeping, leaving the frames hanging empty on the walls to symbolize the artworks’ eventual return. As the Luftwaffe’s bombs pounded the proud, stricken city, Marina built a personal Hermitage in her mind—a refuge that would stay buried deep within her, until she needed it once more. . . .
Christmas Books for Kids
Last week I mentioned that a fun thing to do with you children or grandchildren is to have a basket of 25 Christmas book all wrapped in colorful paper and then open one every day in December and spend some time reading to them or letting them read to you. Here are 2 suggestions to add to your basket!
On the night before Christmas, so the old stories say, Saint Nicholas rides in a magical sleigh. But what is the truth, and what are the legends? Who is this giftgiver, and why all the presents? Around Christmas we spend a lot of time thinking about presents, but have you ever wondered why we give gifts? Learn about the life of Saint Nicholas and discover why he became known as one of the greatest giftgivers of all time. Told as a delightful poem, this colorfully illustrated book will be enjoyed by children and the adults who read with them. Also included is a note from the author to encourage further conversation about the content. Discover IVP Kids and share with children the things that matter to God.
Santa Claus has a secret team of especially kind and caring children who he tasks with spreading gifts and Christmas cheer on the twelve days of Christmas. And now, he’s asking YOU to join!
This book will initiate you into the Secret Santa Team and give you ideas of how to share love and joy during the Christmas season.
