Small Business Saturday, 11 small business and artists to shop today, along with an classic festive outfit, sales and more.
Good morning friends, how are you?
Today I am joining Kim and Juliet for weekend meanderings, our weekly series of things that caught our eye, piqued our interest. Adventures, style, life and so much more.
I don’t know about you but I am worn out from the cooking, baking, and lots of Thanksgiving fun. We woke early to go to the blessing of the hounds, then ran home and cooked until the guests arrived.
After a scrumptious Thanksgiving dinner with every side dish imaginable it was time for dessert and family games. A few rounds of dominos and by 9:00 we were all in bed reading and resting.
Yesterday I was a slug, I never got out of my pjs. I read, watched Christmas movies and ate pie for breakfast.
On a side note, if you are still looking for children books to add to you “Advent calendar” there are so many wonderful books on sale and under $10.
Small Business Saturday
According to the SBA there are 28 million small business in the US alone. Coffee shops, hair salons, boutiques, spas, bars, and restaurants, are just a few of the small business that line the streets of every city in the nation.
These local “mom and pop” shops add character, diversity, and community to our villages, cities and towns. They offer places to eat, meet, socialize, workout and so much more. Can you even image your local community without them?
Today is small business Saturday, created 2010 by American Express, Small Business Saturday is now a part of our holiday shopping experience, just like Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Today I wanted to share a few of my favorite small business that I have purchased from lately or have on my list for Christmas shopping.
Shops and Artists
I “met” Ria on Instagram and I fell in love with her beautiful paintings. I even managed to persuade her to write a guest post about her art and inspiration.
You can see all of her fine art on her website and perhaps find something special for yourself or your family and friends. If an original painting in not in your budget this holiday season you are in luck because Ria has launched a limited edition set of prints. You can se them all in her print shop. All orders over $75.00 ship free and a portion of the sale of the limited edition prints will be donated to Toys for Tots.
I’ve been a longtime follower of Pamela @salishseacottage and have enjoyed her cottage renovations, forays into beekeeping and now her beautiful candles.
Pamela launched the Hood Canal Candle Company in 2020 from her cottage by the sea in Washington state. She offers hand-poured, eco friendly candles in limited edition seasonal scents as well as the PNW collection. All of the candles are made in small batches from soy wax, produced from American grown soy beans, are vegan, and the fragrances are phthalate-free.
This year’s fall/winter collection includes Mistletoe, Spiced Sugar Plum, Gingerbread Cottage, Winter Wonderland and Sugared Chestnut.
You can read more about the company and the candle descriptions at Hood Candle Company and follow on Instagram @hoodcanalcandlecompany
Shropshire needle felt artist – fine wool sculpture, Zoom classes, needle felt supplies can all be found in her Etsy shop! She is also the author of “Little Needle Felt Animals” published by Harper Collins 2014. I am partial to this Needle Felt Fox and to the needle felted toadstools.
Di is a friend from the olden days of blogging, and lives in Wales. Although she no longer blogs she sells beautiful antiques in her Etsy Shop. I love this muffin dish and think it would be perfect for breakfast in bed on a Sunday morning!
Deb is an expert on antique textiles and has been collecting them for years. After finding these one of a kind pieces which she sources from all over the world she offers them in her shop along with amazing one of a kind pillows that she creates.
Each of these one of a kind creations are a work of art and history, and their prices reflect that. I realize that these are very special creations and are not within everyones’ budget, including mine this holiday. But I have been a fan of Deb and her work for over 10 years and love to visit her shop just to take in the beauty and history and thought you might like to as well.
Allison is an interior decorator, blogger and small business owner, she has an Etsy shop. Her former home, has been featured in many magazines and shelter magazines and shared online too. If you are a fan of polo, horses and wonderful antiques than you will enjoy every piece in her store.
Jamie Beck
I have been a fan of Jamie Beck for over 10 years, their photography is amazing. During the Covid lockdown(s) in France Jamie created an image every day that she called isolation creations. I purchased two pieces from the first lockdown, but honestly, if I had room I would have bought them all.
Sadly, they are no longer available but you can purchase cards, paperweights, and so much more from her website. And you can order a copy of her newly released book An American in Provence.
If you love art and photography follow Jamie Beck on Instagram where you can watch her create her beautiful photographs.
Patricia is an artist and friend and her work is amazing. You can find prints, original art, cards, notebooks and more in her shop! She also does commission so if that is of interest to you contact her directly.
Elizabeth Floyd
Elizabeth Floyd, a former architect Elizabeth left her job at the age of 35 to pursue her dream of becoming an artist. While there are many of her paintings that I would love to own(everyone in her current exhibition) at this point they are not in my budget.
I was lucky enough this week to buy one of her small watercolor paintings(shown above). There are still a few left if you are a blue and white fan, she also has prints, calendars and original oils available.
Most Lovely Things
Did you know that Annie, of the blog and Instagram Most Lovely Things and most lately of BHG fame also has a shop? You can find vintage finds from France, lavender sachets, handmade ornaments and more.

A few of the items from my shop
Pinecones & Acorns Chairish Shop
I am not sure if you know this but I love vintage and antique finds, art, and clothing. For years I had a shop on One Kings Lane and then in 2016 I opened a shop on Chairish. I have been a super seller for years.
If you love unique, vintage finds come and check out my shop. Most of the items that I sell are under $50 and I offer combined shipping. Art, books, pottery, silver and more are available.
Shop Small Today
These are just a few of the creative, hard working small businesses that I purchase from. I also have plans to buy gift cards from my favorite local restaurant, yoga studio and hair salon this holiday season.
I encourage you to do the same because these hard working artists and small business are the backbone of our country.
