Classic Christmas gifts for women over 50, for every woman on your list, including yourself.

Are you looking for Christmas gifts for women over 50? Your mother, your aunt, your sister, a dear friend, or yourself? The perfect gift, I think, is the one she would buy herself if she weren’t so sensible. (Most of us are far too sensible.) Today I’m sharing a few classic gifts she would love to find wrapped under the tree. Many are things I own and have used for years, and a few are on my own wish list. Most of them make lovely birthday gifts too.

Cozy Christmas Gifts for Women Over 50
You cannot go wrong with a cashmere sweater. They come in nearly every color, but you can never go wrong with the classics: black, gray, blue and red.

This throw blanket is made from 100% cashmere, and it is light enough to use all year. Add a book, a pair of cozy socks, a mug and some hot chocolate (one of my favorites), and she is ready for a lazy day curled up reading.
Jewelry for the Holiday Season and Beyond
Jewelry is always a good idea, and a classic piece is one of those unique gifts she will wear for years. This pair of bow earrings or these pearls are perfect for the holiday season and well beyond it. A simple bracelet or necklace is another lovely choice.
Classic Pieces She Will Wear for Years

A Barbour jacket is an investment piece she will have for years. I bought my first Barbour more than 20 years ago, and I still wear it today. If that is more than you want to spend, this similar jacket is a little less expensive.
For the Woman Who Loves Paper and Pen

My friend Patricia at PVE is an incredible artist and illustrator. This year she is offering a custom illustrated logo or monogram. It is a beautiful gift for anyone with a blog or small business, and it can go on business cards, stationery or letterhead.

Personalized stationary is another lovely gift. The cards are perfect for thank-you notes, a quick hello to a friend or a note of gratitude.
A Little Pampering

This is my favorite shampoo. It’s pricey, but it works and it smells wonderful. I have been using it for over 14 years, and it keeps my hair healthy and shiny.

This toile robe is made from 100% cotton, falls between mid-thigh and knee, and has an adjustable sash. Pair it with a jar of homemade bath salts and a candle, and she has an evening all to herself.

For the Reader in Her Book Club
If she belongs to a book club, a book she hasn’t read yet is always welcome. This year I would give Theo of Golden by Allen Levi. Tuck in a pretty bookmark and a bar of good chocolate, and you have a gift for a quiet afternoon.
Are Gift Cards Thoughtful?
Gift cards have a reputation for being impersonal, but they don’t have to be. A gift card to her favorite independent bookshop, a local tea room or the garden center she loves says you know exactly where she spends her happiest hours. Tuck it into a handwritten note, and it becomes a real gift.
The Gift of Your Time
Of course, you do not have to spend one cent. The best gifts are often an afternoon together: a long lunch, a walk, a phone call that goes on far too long. Give the gift of your time to the women you love. And as for yourself, ask for a little time to rest. You might even get it.
For more ideas, my gift guide for Francophile, Bibliophile or Anglophile has something for every reader and traveler on your list, and don’t forget the hostess or host. You can see more of my favorite gift ideas at the bottom of this post.
Thank you, as always, for spending part of your day with me. I’m curious: what is the best gift you have ever received from another woman, your mother, a sister, a friend? And is there one thing on your own list this year that you are hoping someone figures out without being told?
