2025 Advent Calendars, Sentimental Value, Jenni Murphy, and lots more on Weekend Meanderings.

Weekend Meanderings
Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.
It’s a 3 day weekend, do you have any plans? As I mentioned yesterday that I am tired. After our trip to Galveston last week I arrived home happy and worn out from all of the laughs and fun. This week I played catchup and now I have a list a mile long to check off this weekend. Nothing major, just chores that fell by the wayside.
This morning weather permitting we are walking to the village for the Farmers market, to attend a book and baked good bazaar at church and then to check out the new coffeeshop. I made Ina’s Outrageous Brownies, and some cookies for the bazaar, hopefully whomever buys them enjoys them.
After that I have a pile of Christmas boxes to tackle in the garage. I want to clean them out before the season so that someone can use them in their own decor. Speaking of Christmas, I am curious, when do you start to decorate for the holidays?
I am in the earlier the better camp. We can enjoy them longer, the house is festive for Thanksgiving and any other gathering and as the season progresses there are so many other activities on the schedule there isn’t time to Devore to decor.
Ok, let’s meander.
One to Follow~Jenni Murphy

This week while watching a video on Youtube I discovered artist Jenni Murphy. Her work is whimsical and her process so interesting. Jenni wants her art to be assessable to everyone and paints your stories into her work, it is such a beautiful and creative way to work.

You can see more of her work on her website and on Instagram.

Before you watch this video of this stunning mansion and home of Juan Pablo Molyneux in the Marais get yourself a coffee or tea. It is filled with a collection of fabulous art and furniture. I LOVE the blue and white tiled room and the painted ceiling from the Middle Ages.

ADVENT CALENDARS

Yes, it’s October but guess what, time flies, and if you want to be ready for the holidays it doesn’t hurt to think ahead. There are calendars in every price range from less than $10.00 to over $1000, some filled with candy, jelly, tea or entire product lines of make-up and food items. I am partial to the Fortnum & Mason and the Liberty London calendars, not that I need one, but they are fabulous.

You can also make an Advent Calendar for your kids or grandkids. One of my favorites is to wrap 25 books for your kids and then read one each night with them over the month of December. It is the gift that keeps on giving. Annie also has some great Advent DIY ideas that are easy to make and so creative.

Treat yourself to a small or large Advent Calendar this season, it’s like self-care for the stress of the season.
You can see all of my picks in My Holiday Shop which I am slowly filling with decor, trees, wreaths, garland, tabletop and gift ideas.

Get Ready for the Season of Comfort
I am all about cozy season, cosy season for those that don’t know starts in September and goes through the winer months. It is a time to rest, relax, rejuvenate and enjoy the little things in life.

In order to get ready we need a few things, a comfy pair of pajamas, or loungewear, a robe, warm slippers, a cozy throw and of course a cute mug for our hot chocolate or tea. A hot water bottle or a lavender wrap are a great addition as well. Don’t forget to add a few books and magazine to your “cosy” uniform.
The good news is that you can wear this “uniform” to watch your favorite holiday movies, play games and do puzzles. You could bake your favorite cookies, brownies or cinnamon rolls and to just relax and enjoy a little self care too!
Why not add a few of these things to your Christmas list or to gift to friends and family?
Do you enjoy cozy season? What does your cozy uniform look like?

On My Radar

Just thought I’d share my favorite PJ brand. Bedhead PJ’s!
I love their stretch cotton fabric. Super comfortable, and such cute fabrics. I see them fairly often, worn by characters in television shows – maybe because the company is in Los Angeles?
I’ve had a long summer of health challenges, including two surgeries. Treating myself to just one more set was a real mood booster.
I meant to comment after your post several weeks ago, regarding women’s health. Yes to all of your research! As a post menopausal woman, some unexpected spotting was unusual, but not that alarming to me. After decades of menstrual cycles, and two children, I’ve seen plenty of that. I did check in with my doc – thank goodness.
Multiple appointments for imaging, biopsies, and two surgeries later, I am healing, and have a clean bill of health!
Elizabeth, I would love to hear more about your trip! Will you share it?
I hope you have a great weekend. I love fall weekends.
I want to get to some of these movies. I will tuck into the house tours this afternoon! So many good ones.
I love the idea of getting some cozy pjs for the cooler months. It’s a nice splurge and we can hang in them too.
That pumpkin bread and chicken dish sound amazing. Going to check them out and your list of classics! This is the perfect time to read a great book. xo
Elizabeth! I love your love for advent calendars. I can’t believe we’re mid-way through October and the holidays are around the corner. Now that we have an artificial Christmas tree I like to put it up for Thanksgiving, makes the holiday even more festive. And I’ll start the rest of the Christmas decorations the day after. It’s really nice to enjoy them the entire month of December. I’m putting The Grand Seduction on my watch list for this week. And Sentimental Value looks amazing … it may be something we venture to the theater to see. Look like you’ve got lots of good home tours this week and after lunch I’m going to settle in to indulge! Happy weekend! xo
I’m reading this in the Atlanta airport on the last leg of our trip (four weeks in Europe). And I must admit that this has me excited to be home and get ready for the holidays!
Mary Ann,
I am sure that your sweet pup and sister were happy to see you when both you and Howard returned home. The trip looked amazing and was fun to follow on Instagram.
Have a wonderful week.
I had the same symptoms last April, post menopausal and occasional spotting. Turned out to be cervical cancer. Had a great oncologist and 6 weeks later, I was cancer free. 5 months later, I am almost back to normal. Just shows, something not right. See your Dr asap.craving comfort food!
Hope fall hangs around a couple of months.
Marcia, thank you for sharing your story. Thank God you are cancer free!
Enjoy a beautiful Fall!
