Spooky Decor, Sweet Treats, Costumes and More on Weekend Meanderings

Today on weekend meanderings it’s all about Halloween, spooky movies and books, sweet treats and party food and of course costumes and decor.

Good morning and a very happy weekend meanderings to you my friends.

Yesterday I was at the dermatologist for my annual mole check. It’s actually been 2 years since my last visit because I had to cancel my appointment when we moved.

Fortunately, or unfortunately they had to burn a spot off my right temple and they found something suspicious on my foot. That was cut out and I am waiting for the results.

I am fair skinned and am vigilant about the sun, I wear sunscreen and don’t spend much time outside unprotected, never have. This is your reminder my friends, get your skin checked annually at the dermatologist and don’t forget your mammogram too.

Other than that I had a busy, productive and wonderful week. Yesterday we took the afternoon off and strolled around the village. We stopped for cocktails and to chat with friends and meandered in and out of the shops.

Today we are headed to an oyster farm and tomorrow we are having a bocce tournament.

Ok, enough of that lets get to the topic at had, all things Halloween.

Weekend Meanderings

This morning I am joining Kim and Juliet for our weekly series “weekend meanderings” where were share all of the things that piqued our interest, our adventures and more.

Halloween Costumes for Adults

Are you a fan of Halloween parties and costumes? I will admit, the only thing I like about Halloween is the candy. Dressing up to go to a party is worse than going to the dentist in my opinion. And yet for many, many years I had to attend my husbands company Halloween party. The CEO and his wife LOVE Halloween and every room inside and out was decorated, it was like being at the Haunted Mansion at Disney World.

I love seeing all of the creative outfits of both children and adults but I don’t like to do it myself. My creativity extended as far as an orange M&M(my mom sewed the costume for me) and a medieval princess. I loved the cone hat.

Weekend Meanderings Audrey Hepburn in black outfit

If you are looking for a costume idea check out this list of French inspired Halloween Costumes, easy costumes like Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face, Emily in Paris,  and Karl Langerfield.

You could recreate the Audrey inspiration by shopping your closet for a black turtleneck, black loafers, and black pants. Pull your hair back and voila, instant Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face.

How about Cruella? I’ve seen this costume a lot over the last few weeks, the wig, the red lips and the smokey eye are key.

Easy Halloween Treats

Halloween is 8 days away can you believe it? Seriously, it seems like it was just September 1 and we were counting the days until the first day of Fall.

Easy treats are my favorite kind of treats and I gathered up a few, just in case you have a party to attend or want to make something with your kids.

DIY paper bag witches broom treat bags

Witches Broom Treat Bags, the easiest Halloween diy, which is the kind of diy that I like. Sheri made these adorable brown paper treat bags and has many more easy treats on her blog.

baking tray filled with chocolate covered halloween Oreos and candy

Is it just me or does it seem absurd to pay $8.00 for three chocolate covered Oreos? Holiday inspired chocolate covered Oreo’s are one of the easiest treats to make and they are always a favorite at any party or in any cookie box. I make these all the time for my grandkids and they love them.

You can use candy melts or chocolate and then decorate with seasonal candy or sprinkles.

Monster-munch-popcorn

Monster munch popcorn is another easy and delicious treat. You can buy popped popcorn or make your own, the drizzle with the same candy melts or chocolate I mentioned above. Just before the chocolate hardens add the candy, sprinkles and eyes. Once dried, break it into chunks and add to cellophane treat bags.

  1. Thanks for including me in this great post! I’m obsessed with Audrey Hepburn and will be channeling that exact look at a party my daughter and her boyfriend are hosting next week! Love all these ideas! xo

  2. Elizabeth,Fun post! Love the Halloween board idea especially! People are so creative. Great costume ideas. I’ve gone as Audrey in Breakfast at Tiffany’s a few times.. I’m inspired to try some of these cute treats. I love everything Sheri does.. Good you did your mole check. I also go yearly as we get a lot of sun in California. It seems every time the remove at least one thing for further checking.
    We’ll have fun this weekend!

    1. Kim,
I love a food board for any season. It is an easy thing to make an always nice if you do not like or have time to do something homemade.
It is scary when you go in and they remove something, especially if you never go in the sun!
I would love to see a photo of you as Audrey! I am sure that your costume was amazing!
      Have a wonderful weekend.

  3. Love all the Halloween fun, Elizabeth! It’s been quite a while since I got into costume … or was invited to a Halloween party. Boo hoo. Although I find it stressful to come up with and execute creative ideas. Some friends just dressed up as the cast of Ted Lasso and they nailed it! So sorry about your skin concerns … as a fair skinned person I deal with the same things. So glad you’re staying on top of it. Wish I’d spent less time in the sun when I was younger. I think we all do. Enjoy the weekend, sounds like you have some fun plans! xo

    1. Juliet, thank you! I am not a costume person but I am happy and excited for people that love dressing up and enjoying the season. Now, if you invited me to go trick or treating I would not put up a fuss.
The things we wish we knew when we were younger. I think there is not enough emphasis on any of that when kids are young and they all pay for it later.
Have a wonderful weekend, I cannot wait o hear what you learned from the mixologists.

  4. This is such a fun post! I loved seeing all of the ideas for Halloween! I’m bummed because we will be traveling on the 31st and won’t get to celebrate this fun holiday! Pinning some of your great ideas for next year though! Thanks and have a great week!

  5. It’s so sweet of you to include me in this post, Elizabeth, thank you so much I really appreciate it. I loved seeing the other Halloween decor and food ideas. They’re fun and festive which is what Halloween is all about! Hope all goes well with your results. I know the waiting can be scary so I’ll be thinking of you. Hugs, CoCo
