Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning to you friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Juliet and Kim. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.

I had a great week, it snowed! Not a lot, in fact I think less than an inch, but it was so cold for the 3 days after that we still have some. Nature is beautiful but to me never more beautiful than when covered in snow. Everything looks magical and ethereal.

What about you? Did you have snow? Ice? Cold weather?

House Update

The bathrooms are almost finished. The powder bath needs all of the plumbing, lights, and wallpaper(still have not found “the one.”) And the master needs the electrical, lights, paint, mirrors and a few other small things. Aside from that they are both everything I hoped for and more!

After the bathrooms are complete, new floors, paint, and window treatments in the master bedroom(the room the tree fell on) and Bills office(which is where we are currently sleeping). We are also having the living room repainted and I am on the hunt for furniture. Hopefully  we will find 4 comfortable chairs to go around a round ottoman and then down the line we will have bookcases and a fireplace put on one wall.

Ok, on to the good stuff!

Jane Austen’s 250th Anniversary

Jane Austen’s House

The Jane Austen House has a full schedule all year long to celebrate Jane. If you can’t be there in person listen to A Jane Austen Year, the podcast.

A Jane Austen Year is a mindful, soothing and uplifting podcast that transports you to Jane Austen’s House in Chawton… Each month, join us on a seasonal journey through Jane Austen’s novels, the story of her life and the world she lived in. Discover scenes, letters, recipes, and objects from the museum collection, bound together with original music and sounds recorded in the House itself.

The Jane Austen Festival

The Jane Austen Festival in Bath is organizing 2 summer balls, May 31, and June 28th as well as, the annual festival September 12-21st. The celebration will end with a yuletide ball in Bath’s Pump Room on December 13th.

If you are heading to the UK to celebrate Jane Austen and to take in one or more of the celebrations you will want to read this article, How to celebrate Jane Austen on her 250th birthday.

  • I look forward to watching the videos you linked. You always have great recommendations and good articles linked. Enjoy your weekend and your almost finished renovation!

  • Hoping for a full reveal of your updated spaces when complete. I’ve never seen any of your home in the time that I’ve been reading your blog. Enjoy the hunt for “the one.”

  • Hi Elizabeth,

  • Good morning, Elizabeth! Snow … wow. It must be absolutely beautiful. I’m so pleased to hear about your bathroom progress … and love your plan for a four chair-around-ottoman situation. Ok, so shall we book our flights for the Jane Austen Yuletide ball?! I’m game if you are. I’m going to download the podcast and start listening immediately. Just added The Thursday Murder Club to my watch list … what a cast. Hope you have a lovely weekend, warm inside with a hot cocoa and sweet treat. xo

  • Thank you for the link to the article regarding finishing the work of deceased fibre artists. I’ve bookmarked it. I think it’s a wonderful idea. Also, I hope we get to see some photos of your finished rooms.

    • Rita, may I ask are you thinking of using them for an unfinished project? Or volunteering? I could not agree more. It is a wonderful project.
As soon as the rooms are finished I will be happy to share.

      • Hi Elizabeth, not to use them or volunteer, unfortunately, I can not knit or crochet and can barely sew. I found it fascinating and heart warming that people would finish the work that someone has put so much love and hours into. It is something I have never thought of. I admire creative people so much and love reading stories on them. I enjoy cooking and say that’s my creative outlet.

  • Elizabeth, I apologize for being so late to your comments! First of all, I am very excited for your remodel. Will you be sharing photos of the progress? I am so glad you are happy with it.
I knew it was Jane’s birthday year. I am hoping to catch something when I am there this summer. I may try and get to Bath, where the Jane Center is! I haven’t been for a long time.

I am putting this Murder show on my list! I love these and what a cast. The French bread pizza looks good. I have to try !
Hope you have a great week Elizabeth. xo
