FRIDAY FAVORITES NO. 624
Good Friday morning to you friends. How was your week? The cold, rain and snow were back this week with a vengeance. Sadly my dreams of a big snowfall were not to be, we got icy rain the first day and a light beautiful dusting the second. It was so cold though I didn’t even go outside to take it all in, but I did watch the softly falling snow from the windows.
I am finally feeling better. Fingers crossed I don’t come into contact with anyone that is sick. there are record numbers of people with the flu this year. How are you feeling?
Ok, on to Friday Favorites!

Good Night Mr. Tom
London is poised on the brink of World War II. Eight-year-old Willie Beech is evacuated to the English countryside and lands on Thomas Oakley’s doorstep, timid and scarred from abuse. Mr. Tom, a gruff but kindly old man, is deeply moved for the boy, treating him with a gentleness he’s forgotten he’s even capable of. With Mr. Tom’s help, Willie leaves behind his hateful past and learns to love a world he never knew existed, a world of friendship and affection and joy.
But then a telegram comes, and Willie is ordered to return to London. When weeks pass without word from him, Mr. Tom sets out for London to once again rescue the boy he’s come to love as a son.

Lydia is having a party—it’s a party she hosts every year for six women friends who treasure the midwinter bash. Over a table laden with a feast of food and wine, the women revel in sharing newsy updates, simmering secrets, and laughter. As this particular evening unfolds, Lydia prepares to make a shattering announcement.
As we follow these friends through their party preparations, we meet flawed but lovable characters who are navigating the hassles of daily chores while also meditating in stolen moments on their lives, their regrets, their complicated relationships, and their deepest desires. When Lydia’s announcement shocks them all, they rediscover the enduring bonds of friendship and find their lives changing in unexpected ways.
Tender, wryly funny, and exquisitely written, Lydia’s Party poignantly considers both the challenges of everyday life and of facing our fears while creating characters whose foibles and feistiness will capture readers’ hearts.
New York, 1858: Mary, a young widow with three children, agrees to marry her brother-in-law Frederick Law Olmsted, who is acting on his late brother’s deathbed plea to “not let Mary suffer.” But she craves more than a marriage of convenience and sets out to win her husband’s love. Beginning with Central Park in New York City, Mary joins Fred on his quest to create a ‘beating green heart’ in the center of every urban space.
Over the next 40 years, Fred is inspired to create dozens of city parks, private estates and public spaces with Mary at his side. Based upon real people and true events, this is the story of Mary’s journey and personal growth and the challenges inherent in loving a brilliant and ambitious man.

One of the many things I love about French women, and I have many as friends, is their effortless chic way of dressing. They have a capsule wardrobe and yet they always manage to look put together, fresh and beautiful.
This week I put together an outfit that I have seen worn often in France, a classic casual look that you can wear all the time and look great. The jeans, sweater, trench, bag and shoes are all staples, then you add a touch of color with a scarf and your jewelry.

I live in Oklahoma and we were hit with the polar vortex. We got sleet and snow both. I was busy feeding mealworms to the bluebirds that appeared. That was a joy! Saw so many birds busy eating the seed we supply. Do you remember the movie Cold Comfort Farm? It was out in the ‘90’s. I just started reading the book mits wonderful and it was written in 1920’s! Since you love England and British humor you should read it. Glad you’re on the mend!
Nanci,
Thankfully you were home safe and warm. The weather has been strange but there is so much beauty in a snowstorm and seeing the birds that come to the feeders for food. I forgot about meal worms! I will have to get some.
I just ordered Cold Comfort Farms, thank you for the suggestion!
HAve a lovely weekend.
