FRIDAY FAVORITES NO. 629

Good morning friends, happy Friday. Whew, I am so happy that it is Friday, I need a day or two to regroup. We had contractors here for two days this week and then I did a lot of running around to appointments and for errands.

The weather has been beautiful, cool and crisp in the morning and then sunny and beautiful in the afternoon. Except for the pollen. It is that time of the year when everything has a thin layer of green dust, including you if you step outside. I’ve been here almost 4 years and it always surprised me how much pollen there is.

So far we don;t have anything on the schedule, which is a good thing because next week the calendar is jammed packed with something every night.

What about you? How was your week? What are your plans for the weekend?

Ok, enough about me let’s get to the good stuff.

But as love starts to stir between Lexi and Nick, they must navigate a complex web of emotions. How can Lexi fall for Amelia’s dream man without hurting her sister?

If Tomorrow Never Comes

Fate connects two people in life-changing ways in a deeply romantic and emotional novel about hope and second chances by the author of Would You Rather and The Roommate Pact.

Uncertain of what tomorrow brings, Elliott Holland decides to live it up—on the eve of a stem cell transplant to treat her leukemia. It’s destiny when she crosses paths with handsome and charming Jamie Sullivan. The chemistry is magic. So is a beautiful evening that ends with a bittersweet kiss goodbye and no expectations of ever seeing each other again.

One year later, Elliott’s future looks good. Her cancer is in remission. Her career in graphic design is taking off. And she’s finally met Carly, the young woman whose stem cell donation gave Elliott a second chance at life. Then, in a twist of fate both blissful and unfair, she meets Carly’s boyfriend. It’s Jamie, the man Elliott kissed like it was her last day on earth. Neither of them has ever forgotten it.

Now, the most difficult decisions of all lie ahead. Whatever risks there are to the heart, one need wins out: to grab hold of everything that can make someone feel alive again.

An American Housewife bookcover with an old fashioned tv and a lady in a pink dress holding a pot and a whisk.

An America Housewife

For a beloved television star in 1950s America, image and reality clash in an insightful novel about fame, marriage, and secrets by the international bestselling author of The Light After the War.

New York City, 1950. Dreams come true for radio personality Maggie Lane when she gets her big break in the exciting new world of television. The Maggie Lane Baking Show is on the air.

All she has to do is act like the ideal housewife, create sumptuous desserts, charm the show’s sponsors, and sign a morality clause to ensure that her girl-next-door image remains untarnished. Although newlywed Maggie has never baked so much as a cookie, and knows even less about maintaining a home, keeping up appearances is a necessary ingredient for success. Easy. She has a supportive husband and a legion of fans who can’t wait to know her better and better, week after week.

That’s what she’s afraid of. Off camera, cracks are showing in her marriage, an old lover makes an unexpected return, and there are secrets from the past that could ruin everything Maggie has worked for. With every dream on the line, Maggie wonders if she can still have it all when the truth about what it really means to be an American housewife comes to light.

SHOPPING~OUTFIT OF THE DAY

Next to dresses I love skirts, they look “dressy” and casual depending upon the way that you accessorize them. They are also cool during hot days and can be layers for the cool nights.

Fashion over 50 blue and white stripe outfit with skirt, white t-shirt, blue sweater, red and white sandals with lobsters, woven tote, hat and gold earrings and bottle of perfume.

This week I found this stripe skirt(under$30.00) and paired  with a t-shirt, sweater, and summer accessories. It looks classic, casual and comfortable.

  1. Just received the Boden Eloise embroidered midi that you had shared recently. Love it and never would’ve scouted it out on my own. I haven’t had much luck with Boden in the past. Thank you for sharing a style that’s versatile for many daytime functions and youthful yet age-appropriate for me.

    1. Debra, thank you for letting me know! I love Boden, although I agree with you sometimes it is great and sometimes not so great. I hope that you enjoy your new dress!
      Have a wonderful weekend.

  2. Hi Elizabeth,
Have you read the “American Housewife”
yet? That looks like a good read for me. I was born in 1951, have a super young heart. How do you find the time to read ? You are either baking, cooking, or on “Elizabeth Go” from what you share. Maybe you can fill me in on your secret. Maybe you are a speed reader. I’m a slow reader. My hubs reads pretty much all the time. He always had his nose in a book. It’s wonderful.
The 30 Minute Tuscan Artichoke soup looks yummy. I have to find a sub for one item. My hubs has had elevated cholesterol for over 46 years. I don’t wish to add to it.
    Have a lovely day.

    1. Katherine, my secret to reading is that I don’t watch tv and I spend all of my free time reading. I am also a very fast reader.
I have An American Housewife on my kindle, it was a “First Reads” this month so after I finish the book I am reading I will dive into that one.
As for baking, I love it. It’s my stress relief. It’s funny because my brother is the same although he is a much better baker than I am he tackles more intense recipes, like croissants, cakes that are decorated in homemade fondant, etc.
Let me know how you liked the soup and what your substitution was. My husband has elevated cholesterol as well.
I hope that you have a wonderful weekend.

  3. Elizabeth, Hope you can chill this weekend and the pollen gets better. I use that over the counter nasal spray stuff when our pollen gets bad and it is a gamechanger. I love all these recipes- you found so many good ones.. especially your bundt cake! I will share it on the blog! Will link this morning.
The blue skirt is super cute. Love the little woven bag too. So many fun books. I will save those.
Hope you have a great weekend! xo
