Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.

How was your week? As I mentioned yesterday it was a busy week and I am ready for a little break. I am very excited because this week the 2 windows in the former art studio/master bedroom were walled in. Now we actually have a wall in the room with no windows, and no doors. I believe the painters are coming this next week and we are waiting for the estimate and start date for the floors.

If anyone has a source or a workroom aside from the Shade Store for drapery or shades I would love to know about it. We used the SS in the kitchen and dining room and love them but I am not sure I want to use them for the bedroom, I think I want to have some color or patterns on the drapes.

St. Augustine Patience is the companion of wisdom overlay on dogwood blossoms.

Did I mention the pollen? Yes it is finally Spring, but here in NC that means it is green season. The pollen is so bad right now now everything is covered in green/yellow dust, including you if you go outside. On a windy day you can see clouds of it coming down from the pine trees. My eyes are scratchy and my ears feel like I have an ear ache, you have to love seasonal allergies. Anyone else sugar from seasonal allergies?

Ok, no more whining, let’s meander.

One to Follow~Sucharita Sengupta Suri

While scrolling through Instagram I came across the whimsical art of  Sucharita Sengupta Suri. Sucharita is a Mumbai based water color artist and graphic artist that creates paintings inspired by nature. She has also collaborated with designer Sarah Flint, illustrated two books and can be found in collections all over the world.

“The art I create is an extension of the world that resides in my mind, drawing inspiration from the beauty, oddities, and anomalies of nature. Fascinated by the Cabinet of Curiosities, fables, and folklores, I aim to evoke a similar sense of wonder and curiosity through my work.”

I love all of her work and spent over an hour scrolling and examining each painting on Instagram and her website. The birds, botanical illustrations and the whimsy in each piece is magical. And frankly any artist that says “her world is full of magic, nature, fables and fairytales” is my kind of artist.

If you would like to learn more about Sucharita Sengupta Suri visit her website or follow along for the latest paintings and news on Instagram.

Downton Abbey~The Finale

Downton Abbey The Finale poster with Lady Mary in a Red dress walking into the hall of Downton.

Downton fans mark your calendar for September 12th to say farewell to your favorite characters. After 15 years it is the end of an amazing television series and movies. Our favorite characters will all be there except for Lady Violet Crawley, played by Maggie Smith who passed away last year at the age of 89. Julian Fellowes, the creator of the TV series and writer of the first two films, returns to write the screenplay for “The Grand Finale.”

Loved Before

This is such a cool idea. Preloved, cherished stuffed toys getting a new lease on life and a new “best friend” once they are adopted.

Loved Before is “saving the planet one teddy at a time.” We all have a toy that we loved as a child, for some it’s a teddy, other’s it’s a doll, a rabbit or something else. But where do all of these beloved animals go when we grow out of them if they are not in the back of our closet? To thrift stores, garage sales and eventually landfills.

Charlotte, the founder of Loved Before go the idea of creating sustainable preloved toys while working at charity shops in the UK where she sorted thousands of stuffed toys donated.

“Loved Before was born with the mission to revolutionise our perspective on sustainable toys. By redefining our attitudes toward pre-owned items through the medium of pre loved toys, we aim to demonstrate that, far from diminishing in value, an eco-friendly toy, once cherished, is made even more valuable by the love and life it has already experienced.”

Follow Loved Before on Instagram and check out the website just in case you would like to adopt preloved toy for your child or grandchild. New friends are released every Monday at 8:00 pm. With Easter just around the corner there is still time to adopt a bunny to add to your Easter basket.

Audrey’s Children

I am looking forward to watching this movie, based upon the real life of Dr. Audrey Evans, an amazing woman.

1969. Dr. Audrey Evans joins world-renowned children’s hospital and battles sexism, medical conventions, and the subterfuge of her peers to develop revolutionary treatments and purchase the first Ronald McDonald House, impacting millions.

With Age Comes Wisdom

With age comes wisdom. Some of us learn this lesson sooner than others but we can always use a reminder. Friends, life is short, be yourself and life the life that you want, not the one that social media tells you that you should want.

  1. Hi Elizabeth,
Wow, lots to share in this post.
I’m sorry to hear about the pollen giving you so much trouble. I have allergies too, living in Oak Creek Canyon (Sedona) for 22 years and backing up to the forest we were surrounded by pine trees, LOTS of pollen, all over everything. It made me feel icky.
I’m a huge fan of Downton Abbey, looking forward to seeing the Finale, staring all of everyone. Missing Maggie Smith (will always be one of my living favorite ladies. Loved her personality, to the point and never would sugar coat what was on her mind.
Love, “patience is the compassion of wisdom.”
You are making progress with your home, you both have been through so much.
Loved before plush babies, a great idea.
Also enjoyed the artist, Sucharita Sengupta Suri.
Hope you can chill this weekend.

  2. So many interesting articles in this post, thank you, will come back for more reading. The artists’ work is incredible.. Hopefully the allergies can be managed. Enjoy your weekend.
