The National Gallery, Sue Bibby, Louvre Couture Art and Fashion, and more on Weekend Meanderings.
Weekend Meanderings
Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.
It was an exciting week in our little village. Rumors were swirling that Taylor Swift her beau Travis Kelsey and friends Britany Mahomes and her husband Patrick were in town. In the end it seemed as if it was a boys golfing trip to play the Pinehurst #2.
Yesterday as my husband was picking up dinner at the club he joined a group of fans and watched his two favorite KC Chiefs players play the last 2 holes. It goes without saying that he was very excited.
Tonight we are going to a party and that is about it here. How was your week?
One to Follow~ Sue Bibby

Recently while scrolling Instagram I came across artist Sue Bibby, she is an embroidery artists who creates life-like 3d birds, framed art work and small items. Her work is inspired by nature, gardens and wildlife and begins with a sketch. From there, using scraps of vintage textiles she creates amazing works of art using hand embroidery and free-motion machine techniques.
You can see more of her work on Instagram or her website.

Learn & Create at The National Gallery
If you are like me and not very artistic perhaps a class at the Natural Gallery can help? No, you don’t have to be in London you can take all of the classes virtually. Modern technology has some pitfalls but this is not one of them.

There are classes all year long, you can focus on one artist like Surat, Venetian painter Canaletto, or Velázquez. Learn art history in classes “Art and Society”, “Brilliant light: A history of light in Western European painting” and one I am thinking of taking “Muse, Madonna or Medusa:Unravelling female archetypes in paintings.”
See more details on the National Gallery site.
Secrets of Paris~”Adventures in the Louvre” Interview with Elaine Sciolino
A few weeks ago I shared the book Adventures in the Louvre by Elaine Sciolino and this week this video popped up as a suggestion on Youtube. The book will be released in April, 2025 and the interview is fascinating!
15 Things You Didn’t Know About the Louvre
Louvre Couture~Art & Fashion Statement Piece
Speaking of the Louvre, this amazing exhibit features over 65 pieces and accessories on loan from the most iconic fashion houses around the world. Set amongst the Department of Decorative Arts the pieces are interspersed within the permanent collection.
If you will be in Paris between now and the end of July you can see it in person with a general admission ticket. Otherwise enjoy this film it is fascinating!
10 Artworks to See at the Louvre
I have been to the Louvre many, many times, in fact I visit it each time I am in Paris. My very first visit to the Louvre was before the I.M Pei pyramid, that is pre-1989. Let me tell you that way back then the Louvre was crowded, hard to get around, dark and not very inviting. In fact it was smaller way back then, the Pyramid and all of the improvements did make the Louvre a much better experience.
Unfortunately, after so many years and many more visitors the Louvre has become overcrowded and there are changes ahead. The Mona Lisa is going to have its own room and there will be more facilities for visitors as well as a better flow of the art work.
Did you know that the Louvre owns some 500,000 artworks and only 30,000 of which are on display?
Learn more about the changes ahead in this article from the Smithsonian.

On My Radar~Spring

These social media companies have gotten way out of hand. I don’t post on FB, but I go to my network group to see what’s new. In terms of meat, I don’t eat a lot of it. I don’t care for the texture.
Brenda
Sadly Brenda, I think that you are right. I think that we let the genie out of the bottle and now we are trying to put in back inside.
I am not a fan of meat, I do not like the texture either.
Have a great week Brenda.
Elizabeth, Sounds like a fun weekend in your town. I am so sorry I am late to your fun post here. I love all the things about the Louvre! Great videos. Going to watch them tonight on the couch. I haven’t been in a long time, but I might go this summer. I love the bird art too. I did not know about this thing with the National Gallery! Wow that is cool. Saving your lemon ricotta pasta..The outfit with the straw bag is SO cute. Hope your weather is good. We had 87 degrees yesterday and now dark and rainy in the 50s… Gotta love spring. Hope your week has been good. xo
