Monday Musings No.182

Good morning friends, happy Monday to you! I hope that you had a lovely weekend. The weather here was beautiful, at least 10-12 degrees below normal and it was heaven.

I read a comment recently on a friends’ blog and it bothered me. The person wrote that she was happy that the blogger did not have ads on their page and that it was nice to read a blog from someone that did not care about money. I am paraphrasing but that was a gist of the comment.

So I wanted to address this for anyone that wonders why bloggers work so hard on their posts and have them messed up by ads, myself included.

Blogging is not free, unless you are on Blogger platform, and then you do not own your site or anything you write.

Blogging costs a lot of money, you need a platform, a domain name, a host, a template, a tech person when you have problems, a camera, classes, and the list goes on. That is just for “little blogs.”

For larger blogs the costs are way higher and there is a lot more involved. Jennifer Conley of A Well Styled Life wrote a great post about the costs of her blog and frankly I was shocked at what her costs were a year.

All of that is to say, we earn money blogging a few ways, affiliate links from which we earn pennies on the dollar, ads or sponsored posts or brand deals. I have chosen to place ads on my blog, I am sorry if they offend you, they offend me too but they do pay for this “free blog.” As for affiliate links, I only share things I own, read, wear or would actually purchase.

I don’t write this blog for money, it’s not my job. I write it because I love the community of people that read it. That said, I don’t want it to cost me money to write it every month.

Ok, rant over. Tell me about your weekend? What did you do?

On to +5 Things!

1.Read~The Red Leather Diary

The Red Leather Diary.

Rescued from a Dumpster on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, a discarded diary brings to life the glamorous, forgotten world of an extraordinary young woman . . .

Opening the tarnished brass lock of a red leather diary found in the basement of a New York City apartment building, New York Times writer Lily Koppel embarked on a journey into the past. Compelled by the hopes and heartaches captured in the pages, Koppel set out to find the diary’s owner, a 90-year old woman named Florence. Eventually reunited with her diary, Florence ventured back to the girl she once was, rediscovering a lost self that burned with artistic fervor.

Joining intimate interviews with original diary entries, The Red Leather Diary is an evocative and entrancing work that recreates the romance and glitter, sophistication and promise, of 1930s New York, bringing to life the true story of a precocious young woman who dared to follow her dreams.

There are other ways of obtaining the news of the day and keep the lovely stuff like yours separate. Have a great week!
