Monday Musings No. 194

Good morning friends, how was your weekend? I hope that it was lovely and relaxing. Ours was just that. The only work that we did was2 hours in the garage. I don’t know about you but our garage needs to be reorganized every 3 months. There are boxes to be recycled, seasonal things to put back in their place and miscellaneous stuff that just shows up like books, magazines, foraged finds, and of course the donation pile. For now order is restored.

Aside from that we had dinner with friends Friday. Then Saturday my brother-in-law can over for lunch and a few football games. I skipped the games and read a pile of magazines and now have a pile of new recipes to try out for the holidays. Is it just me or is reading a paper magazine more enjoyable than reading it on your kindle?

If you like magazines you can find many of them on KindleUnlimited or on your Libby app. from your local library.

Speaking of magazines, do you have a favorite? Truth be told I am partial to the magazines from the UK, Australia and France, they seem to be jam packed with the stuff that I like.

I would love for you to share your favorite holiday cookie, candy, bread, pastry or recipe with me. Is there something that you make every holiday that you love, if so tell me in the comments and if you don’t mind sharing send me a link to the recipe.

What about you? How was your weekend?

On to +5 Things!

October is crisp days and cool nights, a time to curl up around the dancing flames and sink into a good book.

1.Read~Murder at Somerset House

Murder at Somerset house book cover with a man dressed in regency clothing holding a lantern silhouetted against a large house.

A welcome interlude of calm has descended on Wrexford and Charlotte, though with three lively young boys in their care and an unconventional circle of friends and allies, quiet rarely lasts long. And sure enough, in the dead of night, an old acquaintance appears and asks for help. His brother-in-law has been accused of murdering a fellow member of the prestigious Royal Society at their London headquarters, Somerset House.

Wrexford agrees to investigate, and with a little unexpected help from their young charges, discovers that what seemed a simple case may be part of a darker, more dangerous plot, where science, money, and politics collide. A mysterious new technical innovation threatens to ignite a crisis throughout Europe, with frightening consequences for London’s financial world.

There is also personal upheaval for Wrexford and Charlotte, when a shocking secret from the past brings a profound change to their family, testing the bonds of loyalty and trust as never before . . .

4. SHOPPING BREAK~Outfit of the Day

Fair Isle Sweater with a gray skirt, black bag dan boots and perfume.

Do you have a winter uniform, something that you reach for again and again? For me is is skirts and sweaters paired with a pair of boots. I wear it out for the day, to dinner, mass and entertaining at home. A midi skirt is perfect for fall and winter to keep your legs warm, wear it with tights or even cosy base layers. As for the sweater, fair isle sweaters are a winter classic, I am pretty sure that everyone has at least one in the closet, if not you should add one to it.

All of these pieces would make a great holiday gift or a separate to add to your closet.

I love The English Home, Country Living UK, RED, Country Life, CoutryStyle(Australia), House & Gardens UK and may others that are listed in my amazon shop. https://amzn.to/4qrH918

You can find most of them at your library on the Libby App. They also sell the paper copies at some Barnes & Nobel and some Harris Teeter Stores. I subscribe to The English Home(paper copy) and a few others. I hope this helps.

      1. Hello Elizabeth,
Country Style Australia is my favourite magazine. Our Australian Home Beautiful is also a nice magazine. The UK magazines are very good. I have never used a kindle and don’t think I ever will, I like holding a book or magazine to read.
