Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.

It’s going to be a beautiful day, a little cool but sunny. It’s supposed to be in the 70’s, so warm that my husband thinks he is going to sit by the pool. I am of the opinion that 70 in the Fall is not the same as in the summer so I will be home baking. What about you? How is your weather? Is it Fall? Winter? Summer again?

I finally put the finishing touches on my decorations, I was dragging my feet because of the government shutdown and crazy  airline cancellations. Some of our holiday guests were on the fence about traveling with little ones with cancellations uncertain. But in fact they are back on so I wanted the house to be special for them and for us over the coming weeks.

My holiday treat list just grew a little bit longer. I try to make everyone’s favorites and there will be 14 celebrating this year so I have a lot of baking, and candy making coming up. I cannot wait because I will be using a lot of my grandmothers recipes.

This week I am thinking about Thanksgiving, I am in charge of dessert. Pumpkin pie is a given but I may also make an apple marzipan pie or a coconut cream pie for my brother in law. What are you baking or making for thanksgiving? I read yesterday that the best bread for stuffing is hot dog buns. What do you use in your stuffing?

Ok, I have lots to share so let’s meander.

Interior Design~Katie Cardew

I watch a lot of interior design videos and follow a ton of designers but I think my favorite this year has to be Katie Cardew. Her style is fun, classic, with a little whimsy and color and of course a mix of high, low and collected.

Bobbie Brown~Starting Over At 60

Do you subscribe to Begin Again with Davina McCall? If not you should, all of her interviews are fascinating. This week she interviewed Bobbie Brown.

Movies

Aside from the first movie the others are all a little Christmassy. If you are not ready for that you may want to skip ahead.

Love + War

Goodbye June

The film takes place just before Christmas, when an unexpected turn in their mother’s health thrusts four adult siblings and their exasperating father into chaos as they navigate messy family dynamics in the face of potential loss. But their quick-witted mother, June, orchestrates her decline on her own terms — with biting humour, blunt honesty, and a lot of love.

In this, their debut book, Salvesen and Graham invite you to explore the art of creating classically beautiful and thoughtfully curated living spaces that transcend trends and stand the test of time. Featuring a treasure trove of stunning images, they share invaluable insights, guiding you on a journey to decorate your home in a way that is as stylish and inviting today as it will be in years to come.

Dories Anytime Cakes

Dorie’s Anytime Cakes

Over the years, Dorie has created thousands of excellent recipes. And out of all of them, the ones she always comes back to are the simplest cakes. Some may have a dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of icing, but most of them are straight-from-the-oven cakes that are great as-is. They’re cakes that you probably already have all the ingredients for in your pantry. They’re the kinds of cakes you can whip up, put out and know that anyone with a hankering can come by and cut a sliver or a hunk. Any time.

  1. Hi Elizabeth,
Wow, you are hosting Christmas. Fourteen loved ones coming for dinner. I can see why you are doing desserts for Thanksgiving. You are the Queen of desserts. I bet they are all awesome too.
We have been invited to Thanksgiving at our extended family in Scottsdale, AZ. They have 30 to 40 people they invite. We bring my pumpkin cookies, chocolate chip cookies (your recipe) it’s great and a nice bottle of wine.
Do you do most of the cooking for Christmas? I bet your home is so welcoming, cozy, and inviting.

    1. Katherine,
We love a big family celebration. I am so excited to bake and make all of my favorites and of course theirs as well!
I am sure that your celebration with 30-40 with be lively and wonderful.
If we host as we are we do all of the cooking and baking, we prefer to do it that way then we know the timing and the schedule of cooking. In the past when people have offered to bring things they needed the oven or the stovetop and that became a bit of a problem.
      Have a wonderful week friend.

  2. Elizabeth, I believe was your birthday this week! I hope you had a good one. I feel like a bad friend and I missed it. Did you do anything fun to celebrate?

Yay for your family coming for Christmas. They are so lucky to have you with all the treats you are so good at. Your Thanksgiving pies sound wonderful too!! I loved your coffee cake you shared for the Thanksgiving group. I may make it next weekend as we are having family come for the feast and it would be nice for breakfast.

I can’t wait to see all these. Looking forward to watching this Homeworthy and I see I shared the same Millie video you did on Monday ! I didn’t catch your post, I am sorry. I think you and I love the same sort of things.
I am putting The New English Style on my wish list for Max.

My favorite Christmas film is A Christmas Carol, with George C. Scott. It was from the 80’s and is still the best. I have to watch that, and Rick Steve’s European Christmas every year!

I hope you have a great weekend and are getting celebrated and a little spoiled !! You deserve it.
    xo

  3. Elizabeth! I had to laugh … and agree with you, 70 in the summer is quite different from 70 in November. We’re firmly in the late fall, early winter zone so they’ll be no pool visits here. Sounds like you have a wonderful holiday season ahead of you … and lots of baking to keep everyone happy. I just ordered A New English Style … thanks for the link. And I’m swooning over that long, hot pink skirt. I wish I had somewhere to wear it because it’s fabulous. Hop you have the best week! xo
