Monday Musings No. 203
Good morning friends! I hope that you had a lovely weekend. As I mentioned, my nephew received his Eagle Scout badge on Saturday along with two other young men in his group. The ceremony was filled with a little pomp and circumstance, a few inspirational speeches from the Sons of the American Revolution, a state Senator and the scouts themselves. Although these three young men worked for years to earn this badge, they really did not realize what a “big deal” it was until the speeches from the above mentioned parties.
Aside from that we had a family dinner, brunch and I spent a few hours sitting in the sun one day with my mom and another in front of the fire. That is how fickle the weather has been here lately. Yes, I know I do talk a lot about the weather but it seems to have taken on a life of its own this winter. In fact my dad and I talked about the weather in his town for 10 minutes yesterday for much the same reason.
Tell me, how was your weekend? Did you do anything fun?
On to 5 Things!

When Esther Thorel, the wife of a Huguenot silk-weaver, rescues Sara Kemp from a brothel she thinks she is doing God’s will. Sara is not convinced being a maid is better than being a whore, but the chance to escape her grasping ‘madam’ is too good to refuse.
Inside the Thorels’ tall house in Spitalfields, where the strange cadence of the looms fills the attic, the two women forge an uneasy relationship. The physical intimacies of washing and dressing belie the reality: Sara despises her mistress’s blindness to the hypocrisy of her household, while Esther is too wrapped up in her own secrets to see Sara as anything more than another charitable cause.
It is silk that has Esther so distracted. For years she has painted her own designs, dreaming that one day her husband will weave them into reality. When he laughs at her ambition, she strikes up a relationship with one of the journeyman weavers in her attic who teaches her to weave and unwittingly sets in motion events that will change the fate of the whole Thorel household.

4. SHOPPING BREAK

Red adds a pop of color to your wardrobe on cold winter days. This week I paired red ballet flats with jeans, and a cashmere sweater, this one and this one are both a beautiful shade of red. Then added a beautiful bag and a wool coat. As I always say, stick with the classics they never go out of style.

Blackberry & Wild Rose sounds interesting!

I thought so too Brenda, happy New Year.
That’s a very interesting article about the role of Greenland in looking at the world’s climate. I had no idea it was so important.
Paula, I thought that was interesting too! With Greenland in the news so much you realize it is about more than a strategic location.
Have a wonderful day.
