FRIDAY FAVORITES NO. 633

Good morning friends! It is a beautiful day, there is a bit of a chill this morning and it reminds me of spring and summer mornings in the Midwest. The birds are chirping and two of my peonies are starting to bloom. My birds flew the nest and all that’s left is one egg that didn’t hatch and a lot of poo on my door.

Don’t you just love early mornings? There is something special about the stillness, the quiet and the birdsong.

The only plans that I have for the weekend are a good book and sitting at the pool weather permitting. Of course that may change as I have a list of things to do.

What about you? What are your weekend plans.

I have lots to share so on to all of my Favorites from the week.

BOOKS~ ON MY LIST AND MY BEDSIDE TABLE

The Royal Librarian Book Cover or a woman standing in a library reading a book.

The Royal Librarian

Windsor, 1940: Secretly tasked with foiling a suspected plot, Sophie Klein is placed in the Royal Library at Windsor castle, where the princesses reside. But when she learns that Windsor is compromised, Sophie must sacrifice everything she knows to save the future queen of England…

Philadelphia, Present day: Looking through her grandmother’s papers, Lacey Jones comes across a mysterious letter stamped with the Windsor Castle crest. But how did it come to be in her family’s possession?

And so begins a journey that will take Lacey deep into the heart of the oldest inhabited castle in the world, and change her life forever. . .

The Wartime Book Club book cover with a woman in a yellow sweater sitting at a red and white checked table with a stack of books.

The Wartime Cookbook Club

The Isle of Jersey was once a warm and neighborly community, but in 1943, German soldiers patrol the cobbled streets, imposing a harsh rule.

Nazis have ordered Grace La Mottée, the island’s only librarian, to destroy books that threaten the new regime. Instead, she hides the stories away in secret. Along with her headstrong best friend, she wants to fight back. So she forms the Wartime Book Club: a lifeline, offering fearful islanders the joy and escapism of reading.

But as the occupation drags on, the women’s quiet acts of bravery become more perilous – and more important – than ever before. And when tensions turn to violence, they are forced to face the true, terrible cost of resistance . . .

Based on astonishing real events, The Wartime Book Club is a love letter to the power of books in the darkest of times – as well as a moving page-turner that brings to life the remarkable, untold story of an island at war.

Artful Home Josh Young book cover.

Artful Home

Young has built a strong following both for his fine art and his beautiful homes. In his first book, he invites readers into his world, answering their most-asked questions: “How do I create a uniquely beautiful home?” and “How can I be creative in the approach to my home’s look?”

The book is arranged by the five guiding principles Young lives by: palette, texture, form, layers, and nostalgia. Whether creating a painting, designing a room, styling a vignette, or entertaining family and friends, these elements are essential to his work. The book shows readers how Young uses these concepts in his decorating, detailing his philosophy and overall creative approach as an artist and designer, and how they, too, can lean on them to curate beautiful environments.

Rich with new, serenely stunning images of his townhouse in DC and his never-before-seen country house in Virginia, Sycamore House, the book also features beautiful images of Young’s portraiture, collages, and abstracts, as well as flower arrangements, textiles, and ceramics. Ultimately, this book will inspire readers to establish their own point of view and translate it across any creative project they pursue, to create a life that is artful, beautiful, and unique.

SHOPPING~OUTFIT OF THE DAY

As you can tell I love dresses, especially shirt dresses. They are dressy, casual, and versatile, not to mention that they flatter most body types. Typically I would recommend a black, blue, or white shirt dress but every once in a while a print comes along that I love.

Fashion over 50 Boden lemon shirt dress outfit with a bucket bag, sandals, perfume and gold hoop earrings.

This lemon and cherry dress is one of them. The print is beautiful, vibrant and makes a statement. It would make the perfect dress for a summer party, a bridal shower or just a day out. The best part, it’s on sale for 25% off!

If you like patterns and prints here are a few more dresses you may like.
