Monday Musings No. 38

A wonderful movie, a lighthearted book, fabulous fall finds form Ann Taylor and so much more on Monday musings. 

Good Monday morning to you friends! It is the start of a new week and in just 3 days it is officially Fall! Can you believe it? Next up is Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas and finally the new year. It is hard to believe the year went this fast.

Did you get up to watch the Queens’ funeral? I did. The end of a 10 day mourning period and 70 faithful years. I have said it before, I am going to miss her smile. She was an amazing woman and will be missed. Now I need a day to catch up on my sleep after being glued to the tv/computer for the last week.

A wild day at the antique store

I had a crazy experience this week. I went to my favorite antique store to pick up a pair of chairs that we had picked out last weekend.

The store is a big, old hardware store, two story with brick floors and filled to the brim with antiques and finds. The owners waved, said hello and headed to the back and down the stairs with another customer. So I decided to meander to see if there was anything else I had to have along with my new/old chairs. 

As I walked to the back I heard the old screen door open and second later I heard a crash and a faint voice crying for help. I spend back to where I had just come from and saw an elderly lady face first on the bricks laying in a pool of blood.

I stopped in my tracks and  yelled as loud as I could “help, help, somebody help.” Then I checked the lady, whose name I found out later was Gert, she was breathing and I told her to stay put. I ran half way to the back and yelled again and raced back to the front to the lady to see what I could do.

As I arrived back in the front of the store a utility man, who had been working across the street, came in the door. He heard me yelling and came to see the commotion. At the same time the owners arrived from the back.

Gert tripped as she walked in the door and landed on face. Her glasses cut the bridge of her nose, bent in the fall and cut the underside of her right eye and she had a cut and a large bump on her head.

She was wearing a white shirt and white pants, which she told us were her favorite, and they were covered in blood. I have to be honest, I was almost sick from the amount of blood.

The good news, she did not break anything, a miracle in itself as she is 86 years old. She was bruised and battered and thankfully in the fall did not crash through the glass case mere inches from where she landed.

Update

I wanted to call an ambulance but she and her friends refused, so we cleaned her up and she rested a bit. After an hour I left and was assured that she was well taken care of.

The owners called me the next day, they drove to pick up Gerts’ daughter and she took her to the hospital. She was examined and aside from the bruising and cuts has not other issues. Thank God.

Weekend Fun

As for the weekend, it was a beautiful here. The weather was a bit cooler but sunny. I jumped in with both feet and there was a pot of black bean soup on the stove and fresh bread in the oven. I will share the recipe with you next week. The perfect way to start the season.

Friday I went to High Point and had a sneak peak of some of the items that will be on offer at Market in a few weeks. We spent most of our time in the warehouses that offer vintage and antique finds, and it was a treasure trove of biscuit jars, leather bound books, mahogany furniture, copper pots, barley twist candle holders and all of the things I love.

The only thing I purchased was an antique tea canister, I had to restrain from loading up the car with the rest.

A trip to the farmers market, a walk in the village and coffee with friends on Sunday rounded out the weekend.

Do you change your soap to match the seasons? Me too! This week I added  apple cider soap and fall leaves to the two guest baths.

Saturday in the blog I shared a few sweaters, here are a few more that I discovered after I wrote the post. This striped one, this oversize coat length sweater, and this gorgeous cashmere sweater! It may be my favorite sweater this season.

A cape is always a great alternative to a sweater. I like this one and this one.

Ordered this lipstick for fall and winter and this nail polish.

Plaid lovers you might want to add these napkin rings to your Fall table.

A houndstooth coat, a check scarf, plaid penny loafers and a pair of pajamas caught my eye.
