WEEKEND MEANDERINGS
Good morning and a happy Saturday to you! It’s time for weekend meandering with Kim and Juliet, our weekly series where we share all of the things that piqued our interest and caught our eye over the past week.
How was your week? Do you have big plans for the last weekend of Summer? To my NE friends, stay safe, it looks like Hurricane Lee is going to bring lots of rain, winds and possibly power outages so be safe
Thanks to Juliets’ recent posts I have been inspired to purge my closet. Yesterday I stripped it bare, and tried on every piece of clothing and shoes. I have 4 huge garbage bags to donate and still have a full closet, how can that be? I think I might have to go back in this morning and be a little more ruthless.
Today I am baking and recipe testing since the weather should be a little cooler. What about you? Have you baked anything good lately?
Ok, let’s meander.

EyeSwoon~Athena Calderone
I came across Athena Calderone during Covid lock down and fell in love with her kitchen and recipes. Athena is an interior decorator, author, chef, and creator of EyeSwoon, the blog turned lifestyle page. Athena began her blog in 2011 as a new mother. Her husband was away for work a lot and she used her blog as a creative outlet, creating recipes, baking, and hosting dinners while a stay at home mom.

She has been called the “modern girl’s Martha Stewart” by The NY Times and frankly I can see why, there seems to be nothing she cannot do.
Not only has Athena written two best selling books one, a cookbook and the other one interior design, she has collaborated with Crate & Barrel, Zara Home and La Ligne. With 1 million followers on Instagram she is also an “influencer” although she does not like that term.

In addition to all that Athena has a podcast too! Whew, I am worn out just writing about all of her accomplishments, now you can see why she is the modern Martha.

Live Beautiful and Cook Beautiful would make great gifts if you want to get a head start on holiday shopping.
Don’t forget to check out EyeSwoon to see more of Athenas recipes, designs, and to shop! Or follow along on Instagram.

Lessons in Chemistry
I rarely watch tv but I am looking forward to watching Lessons in Chemistry. Based on one of my favorite books, the best selling novel~ Lessons in Chemistry. it premieres on October 13th on Apple TV. I hope it is just as good as the book, which may be a challenge as the book was so good. Typically if I like the book I don’t like the movie and vice versa. Are you the same way?
Set in the early 1950s, Lessons in Chemistry follows Elizabeth Zott, whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a patriarchal society. When Elizabeth finds herself fired from her lab, she accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives — and the men who are suddenly listening — a lot more than recipes.
Have you read the book? Will you be watching the series?

Happy weekend, Elizabeth! I’m honored to have inspired you to take on a major closet clean out … and I’m sorry too. It’s a lot! I finally finished, and now the process starts again! Love that your talking about Athena … I only just discovered her. Maybe two weeks ago. And I want to order her books so thanks for linking. She really is the modern day Martha … I’m obsessed. So excited for Lessons in Chemistry to be released … it’s a book I just could not get into and didn’t finish (I know, I’m an alien) so I think the movie will knock some sense into me. It’s feeling like fall here and I”m loving it. xo
Elizabeth, Yay for purging. That sound like you made some serious progress. So great. I am about to take more things to donation and resale. Love your zucchini bread recipe. I have to try! Thank you so much for sharing our Signature Style posts. So nice of you.
I love your outfit too.. and so many of your clothes choices like that H&M jacket.
I can’t wait to watch this show, but I did not read the book. Heard it was great.
