MONDAY MUSINGS NO. 135

WEEKEND UPDATE

Good morning friends, happy Monday musings to you.

Did you have a nice weekend? The sun finally came out and it was HOT! It had cooled off a bit this past week with all of the rain, but hot summer days are back. I don’t mind telling you I am counting the days until Fall, there are 42 if you are counting as well.

The Olympics are over, 16 days of amazing athletes, glimpses of Paris, and a unity around the world. There were winners and losers but lots of fun for all. It was a little break from the “noise” of the current mood of America. I am going to miss all of the fun. Did you watch the Olympics? What was your favorite sporting competition?

I loved the synchronized swimming and the gymnastics.

What do you think about professional being in the Olympics? I don’t think we will ever go back on that but I am just curios.

Ok, on to +5 Things.

1.READ~The Ladies Midnight Swimming Club

The Ladies Midnight Swimming Club.

Last week I shared Faith Hogan, a new to me author and now I am hooked. This week I read 2 of there books including The Ladies Midnight Swimming Club.

When Elizabeth’s husband dies, leaving her with crippling debt, the only person she can turn to is her friend, Jo. Soon Jo has called in her daughter, Lucy, to help save Elizabeth from bankruptcy. Leaving her old life behind, Lucy is determined to make the most of her fresh start.

As life slowly begins to return to normal, these three women, thrown together by circumstance, become fast friends. But then Jo’s world is turned upside down when she receives some shocking news.

In search of solace, Jo and Elizabeth find themselves enjoying midnight dips in the freezing Irish Sea. Here they can laugh, cry and wash away all their fears. As well as conjure a fundraising plan for the local hospice that will bring the whole community together…

2. WATCHED~Toast

TOAST.

Young Nigel Slater (Freddie Highmore) has big culinary aspirations, even though all his mother (Victoria Hamilton) knows how to make is toast. When his mother dies, relations grow strained between Nigel and his father (Ken Stott), especially when he remarries a woman (Helena Bonham Carter) who wins his heart with a lemon meringue pie. Nigel enters culinary school, starts working in a pub and finds himself competing with his stepmother — both in the kitchen and for his father’s attention.

4. SHOPPING BREAK~FINDS & SALES

Fall Layers Outfit fashion over 50 with jeans, tan loafers, a blue and white stripe shirt, and a blue dachshund sweatshirt, perfume and a gold bracelet.

OUTFIT DETAILS

As I shared last week, the in between weather of Summer and Fall calls for layers. Use or purchase classic pieces for your wardrobe like a stripe shirt that can be worn under a sweatshirt as I have shown here, under a cashmere sweater or by itself. Loafers never go out of style nor do classic understated jewelry pieces.

After you layer your favorite classic pieces throw on something whimsical and unexpected, like this dachshund sweatshirt!

  1. I am going to try making your banofee recipe using Instant Dulce de Leche recipe. If I survive the insta pot, I think I will also try the Dulce de Lethe on the Spiced baked pears recipe. Wish me luck!

  2. I’m not a fan of paid professional athletes in the Olympics. It should be unpaid amateur athletes only. I love gymnastics and diving. This year I got hooked on the track races.
Currently reading Shark Heart and The Love of My Life.
We had a ton of rain Sunday in Oklahoma and now we are hot and steamy! I too am ready for fall!!
    Have a great day!

    1. Nanci,
I feel the same. I thought it ironic that at the end of the Olympics the President of the IOC said we call on the youth of the world to come to the next Olympics. Sadly the professional players in many of the sports are in their late 30s’ and have so much more experience than the youth of the world and are unable to compete.
Thank you for the book tips!
