Monday Musings No. 179

Good morning friends, happy Monday. If you are French or consider yourself a Francophile, Happy Bastille Day!

In 1989, the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution I was in Paris. There was an amazing celebration with a military parade in the morning. Then in the late afternoon, early evening there was another parade and it was spectacular! Designer Azzedine Alaïa was invited by Jean-Paul Goude the designer and creator of the parade to make some of the costumes, including the amazing dress for opera singer Jessye Norman. Ms. Norman sang the La Marseillaise, the French national anthem at the Place de la Concord. Six million people along with dignitaries came to Paris for the celebrations and parties and it was a sight to see a so much fun to be a part of.

How was your weekend? It was another toasty one here. We spent the weekend at the pool cooling off and aside from that really didn’t do much else.

On to +4 Things!

1.Read~The Summer Guests

The Summer Guests Mary Alice Monroe book cover.

Late August is a beautiful time on the Southern coast—the peach trees are ripe, the ocean is warm, and the sweet tea is icy. It’s the perfect time to enjoy the rocking chairs on the porch. But beneath the calm surface bubbles a threat: it’s also peak hurricane season.

When a hurricane threatens the coasts of Florida and South Carolina, an eclectic group of evacuees flees for the farm of their friends Grace and Charles Phillips in North Carolina: the Phillips’s daughter Moira and her rescue dogs, famed equestrian Javier Angel de la Cruz, makeup artist Hannah McLain, horse breeder Gerda Klug and her daughter Elise, and island resident Cara Rutledge. Strangers to all but the Phillips, they must ride out the storm together.

During the course of one of the most challenging weeks of their lives, relationships are put to the test as the evacuees are forced to confront the unresolved issues they have with themselves and with each other. But as the storm passes, they realize that what really matters isn’t what they brought with them to the mountains. Rather, it’s what they’ll take with them once they leave.

4. SHOPPING BREAK~Nordstrom Sale

plaid trench.

Last week it was Amazon this week it’s the Nordstrom Sale. There are lots of things on sale and it is the perfect time to add a few pieces to your Fall wardrobe. Yes, it is hot but soon we will be wearing sweaters and scarves.

If you are shopping the sale and are looking for a new trench coat, this plaid one looks beautiful! I have a wool black watch plaid from the same company and wear it all the time. I also like this trench, it is shorter and has embroidered horses, a fun look for Fall. There are a few Barbour jackets and trenches on sales as well. I have several Barbour coats and have has them for over 20 plus years.

I love these ballet flats, my favorites are the brown suede and the leopard. There are also sales in the beauty department and the home department. What not start your Christmas shopping early?
